Future at 3 Tech

If Crawford gets 5-6 sacks and we pay him 7 million, we'd be over paying him by a lot.

Suh has only had double digit sacks once in his career and that was a rookie. He really averages closer to 6 sacks a year. So I think you might have some lofty expectations from a defensive tackle...

Suh has had 3 seasons of 8 or more sacks in his 5 seasons AND is an elite player versus the run....let's not make this comparison

Bruce Carter got a 5.125 million per year deal after being pulled on and off the bench.

There is a market out there for these players.

not sure if it's accurate but according to overthecap, his cap number each season is $4.25 mil, so while I agree McClain is better, I don't think he is 3 million better.

you think we overrate him?
He's thought highly of because of expectations. If he was a 3rd year first round pick, people would be calling him a bust, I'm sure, with the exact same production. But he was essentially a second year player at a new position, and yet managed to be a top 15 or so player in the league at his position. If you compare him just to 2nd and 3rd year players at his position, he's top 2 or 3, comparable with a Sharif Floyd.

They are not going to pay Rolando McClain 7M+ per season.

The 1st year cap hit would be at most half of the average annual amount. That would put Hardy at under 7M and Crawford under 3.5M.

Brandon Carr is likely gone in 2016. Without Carr and a restructure for Tyron, the cap space is 41M in 2016.

They could be moving on from Free which would save 4M, Brinkley which would save 2M and others.

I think 7M per is reasonable for Crawford. He is an excellent player and could be even better this year with better DEs. If they have a quality 1tech to draw some double-teams, Crawford would really blow up.
There are only five 4-3 DTs in the league that have $7 million or more per season contracts. I don't think he's going to get that kind of money. If he remains a top 10-15 player at his position, I'd expect something in the $5-6 million per year range, which is pretty reasonable.

Could Hardy play 3 tech (assuming that both Gregory and Lawrence pan out)?

The Linval Joseph deal is probably a good comp. It is 6.25M average. Joseph is more of a run stuffer and had 3 sacks in each of the past 2 seasons. If Crawford has more sacks in 2015, then he could easily get paid more than Joseph in free agency, IMO.
