Future Looks Bright

some up and coming wr's could lessen the pain of losing cooper if a deal can't be reached. possibly even at rb should pollard and weber live up to expectations. don't want to lose zeke, but that might be beyond our control. but if we were to lose dak, we'd be screwed. just isn't anyone on the team even remotely capable of filling in for him. it used to be a great thing watching a draft pick develop into a star. but now if they do, you can't count on affording them the second go around.
I agree there is no answer for Dak this season. But if he struggles this season without Elliott as he has before and without Cooper last year how confident will we be in extending him with a huge contract knowing he needs Elite support?

If that’s the case then I’d rather let Elliott sit and truly see if Daks arm can carry us. Then we’ll know if we can move on without an Elite RB and a less dominating rushing offense. And if Dak does it then we open up the checkbook.

Football fans should judge their team's talent level, hopefully from a clear and knowledgeable self-perspective, and not meekly accept 'best player' lists derived from a poorly conceived assessment system. This team is talented. It is not necessary to self-valid the team's competency basically on a typical reality television method of sensationalizing material for viewers to sheepishly consume.

It is what it is. Daks intangible assets brings an element we can win with if surrounded with enough elite talent. That’s fine until the Cap starts ripping it apart.

Then he’ll need to carry us further. I’m afraid this is as good of support as we’ll be able to offer.

All QB’s need a supporting cast but it’s what they do with it that sets them apart. Hopefully he’ll do more with it in the near future.
What talent did Dak have surrounding him in 2017 and most of 2018? If you Dak critics would look at that first, maybe then you would understand why Dak struggled at times during those 2 seasons.

I’m ok with that decision as long as we’re prepared for the consequences.

My concern is with a talent dependent franchise it doesn’t increase our chances letting Elite talent go. And I’m not sure it helps our opportunity to win now.

But if we’re truly serious about extending him next year then 1 year shouldn’t make a real difference if it means compromising our ability to win moving forward.

My thinking is if we don’t extend him now then we probably didn’t have intentions next year and probably why Elliott is forcing the issue as he suspects as such.
Wow, Greg, are you truly that dense or do you simply enjoy acting as if you don't get it?

It's called "precedent" and how and why the Cowboys have never given any star player an extension with 2+ years still left on their current contract. If Jerry gives in, every stud player is going to start demanding a new contract while still having years left on their current one. It will destroy this team and its future ability to manage the salary cap. It's not that hard to understand.

You can count the number of players who could even attempt what Zeke is trying on one hand. The Cowboys built their offense around him, backed him up with 2 rookies and a scrub while Stephen started making pronouncements about "Gurley" money.

Most other players would get fined to death, traded, or released. Contrary to what some want to believe, the Cowboys don't have 20 All Pros and otherworldly talent at every position (except QB and S, of course).

How far has building an offense around Zeke gotten them? The Cowboys neglected the WR, TE and backup Oline positions last year. How far did it get them simply by relying on Zeke? They started the first half of the 2018 season 3-5 with Zeke being starred. Is that what you want? Take care of Zeke and forget all of the other positions of need?

It's like watching the same movie over and over again. lol

Groundhog. Gopher. Whatever. The important thing is never forgetting to drink lots of beer while watching Garrett coach, amirite @Ranching ? ;)

You’re right . He didn’t for those time periods with less supporting cast and the results reflected as such . Which is my concern.

True. It’s another great example how much Elite surrounding talent is needed.

And for the record we were 3-4 when Cooper arrived losing our 1st game with him before finishing 7-2 overall after the trade.

So , without an Elite WR we are 3-4 and without an Elite RB 4-3 if you want to count the win over Egirls when they rested starters in finale.

Overall , without Elite key positions surrounding Dak we are basically about a .500 non playoff team.

And that’s our dilemma in not wanting to over pay Prescott is that it limits Elite supporting cast.

Do you honestly believe Brady, Brees or Rodgers would have fared better with the same lack of talent Dak has had, plus being sacked, hit and chased as much as he has the past 2 seasons?

Maybe not but what would they have done when they had the Elite supporting cast ? That’s the difference.

Much like with Aikman. Didn’t do squat without Elite supporting cast but with it... won 3 Rings.

When are we going to have a greater supporting cast for Dak?

Ok. The season hasn't started yet. Let's be fair and give Dak a few years with the current upgraded talent and see what he can do with it, don't you think?

We don’t have any choice . When the ball snaps we’ll be pulling for him but that doesn’t mean we can’t offer criticism detailing our concerns. And applause for the successes.

Let’s hope we can keep this core talent support together.

I've stepped my game up to rum.

The best rum brand I have ever drunk in my adult life (and I have sampled quite a few :p ). The problem is the distillery does not export it to the states from the Bahamas. I found out about the brand on a cruise my wife and I took there. I am taking an extra suitcase just for packing more bottles on our next trip. :muttley:

You lose all credibility when you say "borderline clueless front office." We have been one of the best drafting teams in the league the last few years and we are not killing our salary cap by paying stars at free agency. They have one of the best rosters and one of the youngest because of the front office
