Well, this took a wrong turn somewhere. I do not advocate drafting ST players. It was mostly about how a dominant offensive line is the key to controlling and winning ballgames...that is all I wanted and tried to convey.
Common sense plays in here somewhere. Of course, if there is a dominant defensive prospect ahead of a questionable OLinman, take him by all means. All I am saying is take the stud OL if he is there for the taking in the 1st over a "maybe" defensive player.
We are 5-1 and this is due to our offensive line, along with some defensive miracles from Rob. Murray is part of that but he is not the reason we can run, it is the line. We still need a couple more guys there, Free might be gone and Leary would be a good back-up. Heck, even Free could fill the same roll when he is replaced. Berny is just there, capable but I would not depend on him filling in for more than a few games. Parnell is kind of in the same category. We need better quality depth and a couple of guys mentioned above would be just that.....if we draft two more studs on the line.
I do agree that we need one good DE and DT, but if they are rated lower than an offensive lineman..pass on them and find them in a later round or FA.
I repeat, never said to draft a ST player whether it be a punter, gunner or whatever.
