I am not sure what i think about Garrett. I was expecting a radical change in terms of discipline with his talk about attention to detail and the obvious emphasis he places on it. Watching bad snaps, poor throws, spotty technique and the like and it has called that a bit into question. In the shortened off season ragged play is to be expected but I have not seen the fruits of said emphasis yet.
What i did not expect to see is the passion and drive that this football team has on display. Guys playing through injury and picking each other up across the team is jsut how this team is. It is so easy to root for.
i told myself at half time during week 1 that I would be happy with whatever outcome because on the road against a top AFC team to go into the half with a lead demonstrated to me that we could compete with anyone. Well after the last week with all the questions and doubt to go into the game and gut out that win with a guy going down only to have another guy step up to that plate, i have decided that I like this team no matter what. Thats a team out there in ever sense of the word.
I really like how Murray runs the ball. He runs tough and Catch's sofa scouting was wrong. He doesn't go down on first contact. What he does do is play smart tough football. He is physical in pass protection but he sets up and follows his blockers which in a way that I can see they might appreciate. He is going to grow with this young offensive line.
The defensive line was the most underrated contributor. I don't know whats gotten into Hatcher but his motor is nonstop and combined with his natural athleticism, he has started to shine. I do not think we can call it a fluke anymore. All through preseason and now two games is a compelling set of evidence. Jay Ratliff is back. His game is predicated on beating guards to the gaps. When hes at his best he can beat double teams to the spot. Well we are seeing that again.
Our linebackers are playing very well when not asked to play coverage 15+ yards downfield. That said its going to be very difficult to prevent James/Brooking or Ball from getting isolated when they share the field. You can only help so much.
Mike Jenkins seems more like two years ago. He gave up that TD but it was a great throw and its not like he was scorched. Overall solid play has allowed us to not completely be exposed on the corners.
The safeties must be doing something right because teams are not able to get downfield on us. Only reason I knew that Davis was on the field was because Billick kept on waiting for him to do something. Never happened and Sensy and Elam deserve credit for that.
Tyron Smith looks like an NBA guard playing perimeter defense with his ability to slide to mirror defenders. Absolutely amazing lateral agility. Oh and hes one tough SOB.
Kitna can still play. If Romo needs to sit a game or two then its not the end of the world. Even that interception he threw over the middle seemed to be a miscommunication between he and Witten. Reps fix stuff like that. I remember when he threw it it looked like a good confident throw. That touch pass to Austin in the corner of the endzone was All World. Best throw I've seen this year.
Oh and a final note. If you still doubt Tony Romo then you are dumb.
