I really wanted for someone else to do it so i could post my roster prediction and not be that guy but noone else did it so i am forced to be that guy.

Anyway here is my roster prediction as of today after watching the replay.

QB: Romo Johnson Moore

Romo is firmly entrenched as the starter with no one on the roster with a sniff of overtaking him. His decision making is improving and his arm remains underrated. Johnson actually showed up last night and as great of a catch was by Stanback the throw by Johnson was money. Moore would not make it through waivers to the practice squad and the guy has potential.

HB: Jones Barber Thompson

At this point this should be a given to anyone. Thompson is putting an iron grip around that third spot and will probably see more carries during the season. Battle getting hurt certainly doesnt help his cause. Battle and Coleman are PS candidates.

FB: Hoyte Anderson

I have enjoyed Polites time here but I want my FBs to be of the killer variety. Hoyte hadnt played FB since HS and was blowing people up and with a year under his belt working at the poistion hes no longer a liability in the passing game. Anderson is a rookie that blows people up and although he dropped a pass last week dispalyed good hands throughout college and is a stalwart on ST.

TE: Witten Fasano Curtis

Unless Bergen performs a miracle it looks like this is Curtis' year. i love to see hard work and determination to pay off and after PS last year and NFLE this summer i am glad to see Curtis doing well. The first two are locks as long as Fasano's surgically repaired shoulder holds up. Get to practice on Tuesday Tony!!

WR: Owens Glenn Crayton Hurd Stanback Austin

Outside of Glenn staying hurt the first three are locks and i refuse to plan on injuries before they happen. Hurd put the ball on the turf yesterday but continues to show good hands and run good routes while excelling on ST. Stanback has four practices at WR under his belt and is already catching TD passes. For some reason i think that he is going to get better. Austin had an abysmal game last night. He dropped passes and allowed an int but in his defenese he still performed well on ST downing a punt on the 5 as a gunner and Urban really didnt do much to supplant him. If I see Jefferson or Urban start to do more on ST then Austin needs to start to worry.

OT: Adams Columbo McQuistan Free Marten

I dont see how anyone could see this position unfold differently. i would like to see or hear about some of the younger guys showing some versatility inside but this group looks pretty good.

G/C: Gurode Davis Kosier Proctor

Watching Davis handle Adams yesterday was a breath of fresh air and Gurode and Kosier both were doing an exclellent job of getting to the second level and taking LBs out of the play. Really my concern here is depth. Berger was getting killed up front last game at one point getting pushed back into the ball carrier and while Proctor has backed up guard reasonably well in the past he needs to work on snapping the ball if hes going to backup the center position. If this trend continues we may need to keep a Darilek or scour the waiver wire after cuts are due.

DE: Spears Canty Hatcher Ratliff

Stephen Bowen played well last year but these first four are gold. Spears was moving with agaility last night, Canty is getting penetration and Hatcher and Ratliff may be our best rushing linemen. Bowen simply gets caught up in the roster squeeze. He doesnt do much on ST that ive seen compared to a Austin or a Curtis and as such hes expendable. i hope to see the FO parlay some of the talent we have at the back end of our roster for some day 2 picks and a guy like Bowen can play no question.

DT: Ferguson Ayodele

Ferguson continues to play at a high level and was a big part of Denver's inability to run the ball in the first quarter. Even better was Ayodele coming in in the second quarter and this trend continuing with Denver still keeping their starters on the field. I think the Ayodele brothers are going to get to play on the same team for the first time ever.

OLB: Ware Ellis Spencer Glymph

Ware is a monster as he gets upfield and in the QBs mug like nobody's business. Ellis may miss the first few games of the season but i expect him to contribute this season. The trainers have dealt with this type of injury in the past and have seen the MRI and gotten a doctors opinion. Ellis has never experienced this type of injury before only having broken his leg in his professional career. i can understand him erring on the side of caution but i believe the trainers when they say its any day now.

Spencer simply needs to use his hands better to get off of blocks and get more reps to improve his recognition and become comfortable lining up over the TE with coverage responsibilities. Hes very quick and shows instincts as demonstrated by almost batting away the pass to Graham. Hell continue to improve but Id be more comfortable with Ellis in the rotation.

Glymph shows steady improvement and it would not be the end of the world if he were forced into significant playing time. Obomese and Long do nothing for me.

ILB: Ayodele James Carpenter Burnett

If James keeps on playing like this then its Ayodele thats going to get pushed by they young guys first. It was a breath of fresh air seeing him not responsible for the deep middle of the field. I saw him cover the flats and the middle zone well this game and it was simply beautiful. i didnt see Ayodele do much this game but hes stout versus the run and plays well in zone coverages.

Burnett was determined to not allow inside runs in the second half and showed another side to his game than running with backs and TEs. He made at least three solid tackles to stonewall runs at the point of attack. it was nice to see from a guy that hasnt made many plays these last few years. Carpenter continues to play well as he covered well and showed some pressure rushing the passer.

CB: Newman Henry Glenn Reeves Thomas

Newman is the man. That is all that needs to be said. Henry was in postion several times and covered well. Glenn was the benefit of some pressure by our front 7 as Marshall got the better of him a time or two but played an overall solid half and is still not afraid to stick his nose in there on run support. Reeves remains a pretty steady force and while Thomas might give up some plays he also makes plays which is more than i can say for anyone else out there. Its been a year since he played football and his talnet is intriguing.

S: Williams Hamlin Davis Watkins Brown

Williams is a force up near the LOS. He looks very quick out there running from sideline to sideline and his pursuit of the ball carrier or QB is just fun to watch. Hes going to hurt some people this year. Hamlin actually seemed to slide over and give deep help when needed which was nice to see after the last 3 years. Davis is possibly our best ST performer and Watkins is our best cover safety backup and a top notch gunner on ST. Brown makes it on potential and plays he has made in practice and last week. i would like to see him do something on ST however.

LS: Frenchy

The ball gets there quick and accurately. After the few years post Hellestrae we all know how invaluable this guy is.

P: McBriar

Not only can he boom them but when hes putting his two tries inside the ten i think we may have a probowler for the next decade.

K: Folk

this i not only because he hit his 50 yarder and Grammatica did not although that certainly helped his cuase. I makes this choice for four reasons: Folks kickoffs have better hangtime and are as long or longer then Grammatica's, Folk has only missed one kick that i know of alll TC and preseason, Folk is known for making some pressure kicks from his time in Arizona, Folk is younger and thus cheaper, Grammatica's performance of making 75% of his kicks last season is somewhat overrated, and there are only so many roster spots to go around. i dont want to cut Moore or Brown or Austin for an extra kicker unless we absolutely must.

Dont get me wrong. i like Grammatica and if Folk shows any signs of faltering over the rest of the preseason this opinion is subject to change but if we are only going to keep one kicker then id rather go with youth. Folk would not make it to the PS and perhpas we can parlay Grammatica to another team for a draft pick.

Regardless those are my 53 and of course are subject to change but what do you guys think?

it could surely end up just like you have it laid out, BUT

urban might beat out austin
the coaches may choose grammatica over folk if no clear cut winner
jones may stick instead of thomas

This is nearly identical to what I think will happen too. We may end up keeping 2 K's though. And dunno if Wade would go with just 6 DL.

Overall, I think this is pretty spot on.

Fuzzy, we're reading the exact same books. That is exactly how I have it as of now.

What exactly has Urban done other than get lit up on punt returns? Did I miss something?

I can't find too much to argue with in this roster. Brown and/or Austin may not stick though. Brown could lose out to another OL like a backup center and I haven't counted Elam out of the mix yet. Austin has to pickup his game or we could see Urban or maybe he goes for the extra OL instead of Brown/Elam.

But for the most part I think you are spot on and I would not be surprised to see it come down exactly as you have laid it out.

Edit: Oh yeah, Thomas is still not in solid IMO...Nate Jones could still hold on to his job.

I debated this topic with you numerous times about 3 years ago. And you're finally coming around to his arm strength.

The thing is, you're not seeing what has been the most apparent thing about Tony Romo all along. His decision making skills have always been his strongest asset... He makes thorough reads, which has always been why I was high on Romo.

I think this team is going places. And Romo will be the captain of the ship....

Who'da thunk?

Im actually reading Donaldson's The Power That Preserves atm. Its acually annoying me they way the main character is but im determined to finish it.

But the roster looks good and i really hope we can get some extra day 2 picks out of the bottom of our roster before its all said and done so we can move up in the 4th of course.

What i found really crazy was that I did my locks first. The guys that I was sure wre going to make it. i ended up with 47 players and guys like Darilek, Berger, Anderson, Polite, Bowen, Austin, Grammatica, Obomese, Jones, Thomas, and a few others left over.

Its good to churn but our 45 that we bring on game day are going to be superb.

i came around to him after the Carolina game.

As for his decision making he sometimes is over confident even careless because of his moxie. He is intelligent and dillegent but he can be somewhat rash from time to time. He hasnt shown that so far this year though.

Typically though you see the most improvement from a player from his first year to his second year but with Romo, he never got any playing time until last year and he has had all off season to breakdown the film and highlight his strengths and weaknesses. i am looking forward to watching him play.

21 of 29 in the past two games; not too shabby. And the trend continues to show promise. :)

Be patient, fuzzywuzzy. He'll deliver the goods this year.

That's precisely the roster I'm hoping for. Although I wouldn't mind seeing Carpenter take over the starting role from James...despite James' improved play, I think Carpenter is far more versatile. James' would be an outstanding situational LB in short yardage situations.

I don't know what you mean by 'his arm is underrated." Do you mean strength, accuracy, touch?

I see it exactly the same as Fuzzy but wouldn't be surprised if we trade a bowen or even a grammatica for a CB

Why didn't Moore get any playing time against Denver?

1. Because Tony played the first half.

2. Because he's the #3 and his playing time is less important than the other 2 QBs.

3. Because he's going to get waived and the less we show him the better the chances he makes it onto the practice squad.
