I think he is already a better blitzer than Bobby Carp.
I wish Hodge could've stayed healthy too.

This is Jason Williams the ILB, not Brandon Williams the OLB.ninja;2982944 said:Very simple: Williams' leg saw Butler's two sacks. Miracle recovery.

The truth is, Capenter has been adequate in his nickel role, and we don't know how ready Jason Willimas is, or isn't, to take over Carp's role. I bet the coaches don't know either given that he's never played a real NFL game and is coming off of a historically limiting injury.
AMERICAS_FAN;2983293 said:I find it laughable how everyone is insisting how far along Williams is, or isn't, in relation to what Carpernter does on the field. It's also laugable that everyone is looking at a small handful of plays where Carpenter was out of position to conclude he is playing poorly.

If anything, Willimas may play some on special teams so coaches can "feel him out". And I anticipate Caprenter will keep his job all season, with Willims potentially spelling him here and there, if he proves healthy enough to play defense; and the only way I see Willimas supplanting Carprenter as thestarter is if Carpernter begins to play so poorly, or inconsitently, that replacing him will be an inevitable choice.

A look at the Cowboys' dozen draft picks after 13 training camp practices:
Third-round ILB Jason Williams: Forget about him challenging Bobby Carpenter for the nickel and dime role. Williams, a workout warrior, has miles to go mentally before he can contribute to the Cowboys' defense. He's basically learning a totally new position after lining up within a yard or two of the line of scrimmage and trying to wreak havoc in the backfield almost every play at Western Illinois. With his head spinning, Williams' amazing athleticism hasn't been apparent, because his reaction time is two or three steps slow. His contributions this season will come on special teams. Williams has potential to be an every-down linebacker, but it will take a lot of work with LB coach Reggie Herring.

Linebackers coach Reggie Herring has a heck of a project on his hands with third-round pick Jason Williams, a workout warrior struggling with the mental adjustment required to leap from Western Illinois to the NFL.
"So what he can run a 4.49?" Bradie James said, referring to Williams' 40 time. "If he doesn't know what he's doing, he'll run a 5.5."
James is more than willing to Williams get up to speed, as long as the rookie is willing to work.
"Jason Williams comes out here every day and wants to work," James said. "It makes it a little easier for me to talk to him. I definitely talk to him, but there's so much.
"You can talk to him all day long. There are so many nuances you have to learn at inside linebacker, so he can be just reacting out there and not thinking. When there's something that he wants to know, I'm right there."
Williams is likely to start next to James at some point in the not-too-distant future. But that seems a long way away right now.

We know where he was moved positionally and that his opportunities may currently be limited to ST play and support roles.
However, it would be nice to read a report of his work habits and progression up until this point.
I am really excited about Victor Butler and Brandon Williams development in camp thus far, we may have some players after all.

Someone I trust says his speed is unreal. He is raw, but has unreal potential. I don't expect him to contribute much beyond Special Teams this year and relief late in games on blowouts. James, Brooking, and Carpenter will be the ILB guys on the field more.
I see JWill taking over Carp's place earlier for the exact same reason.AMERICAS_FAN;2983293 said:the only way I see Willimas supplanting Carprenter as the starter is if Carpernter begins to play so poorly, or inconsitently, that replacing him will be an inevitable choice.
