I don't remember hearing much about him in camp before the injury. Was he looking good? Seems like I would have heard more if he was lighting it up.

It should be interesting to see how he progresses this year.

I think he is already a better blitzer than Bobby Carp.

I wish Hodge could've stayed healthy too.

I think this is a big deal if true. I don't know, but I would imagine he prolly is. He is a much more explosive LB then Carp is. Let's hope he can continue his progress on reacting instead of analyzing and then moving. We've got some solid young LB's on the roster(Williams,Octavien,Butler).

Started coming on when he got hurt. Kid has all the physical tools to be a good LB.

So who's inactive if he plays on sun. Is it a back olb?

Probably Curtis Johnson, he made his debut and re-injured his hamstring running out of the tunnel before the game. He could also take Felix's spot since he is not playing this weekend.

Very simple: Williams' leg saw Butler's two sacks. Miracle recovery.

As I recall Williams was looking even better than Butler pre-injury. The Coaches know, this Rookie knows he can play as well and will see action if he's healthy.

This is Jason Williams the ILB, not Brandon Williams the OLB.

At this point all I want him to do is blitz and swarm to the ball, he has the speed and athleticism for this. Nothing cerebral about it.

I find it laughable how everyone is insisting how far along Williams is, or isn't, in relation to what Carpernter does on the field. It's also laugable that everyone is looking at a small handful of plays where Carpenter was out of position to conclude he is playing poorly.

The truth is, Capenter has been adequate in his nickel role, and we don't know how ready Jason Willimas is, or isn't, to take over Carp's role. I bet the coaches don't know either given that he's never played a real NFL game and is coming off of a historically limiting injury.

If anything, Willimas may play some on special teams so coaches can "feel him out". And I anticipate Caprenter will keep his job all season, with Willims potentially spelling him here and there, if he proves healthy enough to play defense; and the only way I see Willimas supplanting Carprenter as thestarter is if Carpernter begins to play so poorly, or inconsitently, that replacing him will be an inevitable choice.

The truth is, that if he can actually tackle and does not try and avoid contact, that puts him one up on Carp. By the way your definition of adequate, and most everybody elses here are two different things. Everybody in that locker room knows the only reason he hasnt been cut is because he is a former 1st round mistake.

This is good news. Get him on the field! Speed kills... especially on Special Teams.

Draft picks progress report

A look at the Cowboys' dozen draft picks after 13 training camp practices:

Third-round ILB Jason Williams: Forget about him challenging Bobby Carpenter for the nickel and dime role. Williams, a workout warrior, has miles to go mentally before he can contribute to the Cowboys' defense. He's basically learning a totally new position after lining up within a yard or two of the line of scrimmage and trying to wreak havoc in the backfield almost every play at Western Illinois. With his head spinning, Williams' amazing athleticism hasn't been apparent, because his reaction time is two or three steps slow. His contributions this season will come on special teams. Williams has potential to be an every-down linebacker, but it will take a lot of work with LB coach Reggie Herring.

Bradie James wants to help Jason Williams

Linebackers coach Reggie Herring has a heck of a project on his hands with third-round pick Jason Williams, a workout warrior struggling with the mental adjustment required to leap from Western Illinois to the NFL.

"So what he can run a 4.49?" Bradie James said, referring to Williams' 40 time. "If he doesn't know what he's doing, he'll run a 5.5."

James is more than willing to Williams get up to speed, as long as the rookie is willing to work.

"Jason Williams comes out here every day and wants to work," James said. "It makes it a little easier for me to talk to him. I definitely talk to him, but there's so much.

"You can talk to him all day long. There are so many nuances you have to learn at inside linebacker, so he can be just reacting out there and not thinking. When there's something that he wants to know, I'm right there."

Williams is likely to start next to James at some point in the not-too-distant future. But that seems a long way away right now.

I was wondering if those who have been to camp have any information concerning Jason Williams thus far.

We know where he was moved positionally and that his opportunities may currently be limited to ST play and support roles.

However, it would be nice to read a report of his work habits and progression up until this point.

I am really excited about Victor Butler and Brandon Williams development in camp thus far, we may have some players after all.

I looked for one I swear.

Someone I trust says his speed is unreal. He is raw, but has unreal potential. I don't expect him to contribute much beyond Special Teams this year and relief late in games on blowouts. James, Brooking, and Carpenter will be the ILB guys on the field more.

I see JWill taking over Carp's place earlier for the exact same reason.
