Garrett makes an impression
Dallas Cowboys assistant head coach/offensive coordinator Jason Garrett is considered to be high on Denver's list to replace Mike Shanahan, according to an NFL source.
Garrett impressed Denver officials during his interview on Tuesday, according to the source. He was one of seven candidates interviewed as they concluded on Thursday.
Garrett, 42, also interviewed with the Detroit Lions on Monday. Denver owner Pat Bowlen and the search committee are expected confer and either decide to offer a candidate or begin a round of second interviews.
Last offseason, Garrett turned down jobs with Atlanta and Baltimore to return to the Cowboys and signed a hefty new contract that made him the highest paid assistant in the league at $3 million a year. And despite the Cowboys' drop off in offense and players complaining about his scheme, Garrett remains a heavily-sought assistant.
Broncos owner Pat Bowlen surprisingly fired Mike Shanahan after 14 seasons and two Super Bowl titles after Denver missed the playoffs. Denver has a search committee conducting interviews and it consists of Bowlen, chief operating officer Joe Ellis and three football operations executives.
