Garrett makes an impression

Dallas Cowboys assistant head coach/offensive coordinator Jason Garrett is considered to be high on Denver's list to replace Mike Shanahan, according to an NFL source.

Garrett impressed Denver officials during his interview on Tuesday, according to the source. He was one of seven candidates interviewed as they concluded on Thursday.

Garrett, 42, also interviewed with the Detroit Lions on Monday. Denver owner Pat Bowlen and the search committee are expected confer and either decide to offer a candidate or begin a round of second interviews.

Last offseason, Garrett turned down jobs with Atlanta and Baltimore to return to the Cowboys and signed a hefty new contract that made him the highest paid assistant in the league at $3 million a year. And despite the Cowboys' drop off in offense and players complaining about his scheme, Garrett remains a heavily-sought assistant.

Broncos owner Pat Bowlen surprisingly fired Mike Shanahan after 14 seasons and two Super Bowl titles after Denver missed the playoffs. Denver has a search committee conducting interviews and it consists of Bowlen, chief operating officer Joe Ellis and three football operations executives.

I would rather fire Wade and promote Garrett than see Garrett leave for another team.

I am going to laugh at all of the posters who want him gone when he succeeds wherever he goes next year.

Mark my words. First Sean Payton, then Tony Sparano, now Jason Garrett.

Grass isn't always greener on the other side.

I love how anything a poster says has a 50/50 chance of happening, and when it does, they act like they're so smart

but if that's how you validate yourself, more power to you

And how is it a 50/50 chance? The guy is a young coach who just went through a down year. He will look at what he did wrong, and adjust. He will improve because of this year. Like I said, first Payton, then Sparano. And if he goes, now Garrett.

I see a probability higher than 50% that he will succeed. Just because there are two outcomes, does not mean they are 50/50

it's 50/50 because Garrett could go on sucking, or he could turn it around

you're relying on chance, not some inside information, or skill that noone else possesses

I fail to see how the chances of him being good are more than 50% when he's just coming off sucking

Me too. He'll take 3 or 4 coaches with him.

I am relying on chance. And no I do not have inside information or any of that.

But just because I'm relying on chance and there are two things that can happen (succeed or fail) I do not think they are 50/50.

I would say its more 80/20 that Garrett will bounce back after this year. The guy is not an idiot. I am just hoping that we reap the benefits, and not some other team.

The sun can either rise tomorrow, or it will not. Does that mean its 50/50?

No because he held the clipboard behind a great QB, learned the basics from some very good OC's, and because our offensive production last year was not by mistake.

Coaches, just like players have down years. To bail on one because of one bad year is dumb in my opinion.
