Yeah but there is one major problem here............ We can't afford to trade for these guys because of what the cost will include money wise. That's the beauty of Pac Man his is arguably just as good as both those players and will come A LOT cheaper A LOT.
You assume.

I think Pacman would come pretty cheap but if there are 2-3 teams wanting him then the price goes up and likely a lot. Pure speculation though. I'm not counting on him. I'm hoping Cromartie falls to us.

I think the best way to get him is to trade for him and make him play out his rookie contract. His base salaries are 1.74M in 2008 and 2.19M in 2009. Sounds expensive but because his original prorated signing bonus is on the Titans books, we take zero cap hit if we need to cut him. If he plays as a starting level CB and PR and stays clean 4M over 2 years is a bargain.

Any scenario that has Dallas trading more than one fourth-rounder for Pacman is delusional. A first-rounder? Keep floating in space there Major Tom...

I doubt Cromartie is going to drop that far. And Pacman indicated he wants to play for the Cowboys. Jerry can write up a creative incentive-laden, 2 year contract that could land him at a reasonable price. Of course, Pacman will eventually want his big paycheck for the family.

This guy has virtually no disipline in his life, what do ya'll bet he didn't even keep himself in shape enough to be the impact player he was becoming. He hasn't played in 2 years, that's alotta time! I say let Senile Al in Oaktown sign this loser, he'd fit right in there. Move on past the Pacman arcade Jethro!

Pacman Jones-DB-Titans

The Cowboys have reportedly had "internal discussions" about obtaining Pacman Jones if he's reinstated by the NFL.
Huge if. While it's appears surprising any team would consider dealing for Jones, he was the best young cornerback in football at the time of his suspension He doesn't seem likely to be reinstated soon, but he'll find a job when it happens.

If theres a team who could harness and contain Pacman, ours is it.

Haley, Sanders, TO, Tank...

I definitely wouldn't mind seeing him land here with a limited deal with behavioral incentives and a "back door" exit. Sort of like the deal TO got when he first came here.

The wow factor that Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones was talking about adding to his team could be Adam "Pacman" Jones.
According to multiple sources, the Cowboys have had internal discussions about obtaining the suspended Tennessee cornerback if he's reinstated by the NFL.
Jones has been suspended since April 2007 for violations of the NFL conduct policy.

Jones is considered one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL, and that alone has made the Cowboys think about bringing him to Dallas, according to the sources.
There would be numerous obstacles, starting with the suspension.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said commissioner Roger Goodell will review Jones' case before training camps start in July.
And should Jones be reinstated, the Cowboys would have to work out a trade with the Titans.
But the Titans could also release Jones, putting him on the open market.
Jones' Atlanta-based attorney, Manny Arora, did not return a phone call seeking comment, but he told The (Nashville) Tennessean he planned to ask Goodell to re-examine Jones' suspension before the April 26-27 NFL draft.
On Thursday, Jones again said he wants to play for the Cowboys, on an Atlanta radio station.
"I just have to do what I have to do to get back on the field," he said. "Hopefully it won't be long, and hopefully it will be a couple of more months. I would love to play for the Cowboys, America's Team."
If the Cowboys acquire Jones, he would join Pro Bowl cornerback Terence Newman and Anthony Henry, who led the team with six interceptions in 2007. Jones would also be a leading candidate to return punts.
In 2006, he averaged 12.9 yards per return with three touchdowns.

The Cowboys have signed players with troubled pasts before. The team signed nose tackle Tank Johnson last season after he served a suspension for violations of the NFL conduct policy. Johnson maintained a good relationship with Goodell during his suspension, and the Cowboys touted their off-field player programs headed by director Bryan Wansley and consultants Calvin Hill and Jacqualene Stephens.

Since he was drafted by Tennessee in the first round of the 2005 draft, Jones has been arrested six times.
Last month, he entered a guilty plea on charges of felony obstruction of officers stemming from an incident in Georgia.
Jones said he's made some bad decisions.
"It is not always that trouble seems to find me," he told the radio station. "I am learning how to adjust to it, and I am bettering myself as a person."

You play the rookie that you drafted in the first round.

And lament the loss of a 4th or 5th round draft choice.

That's it.
Agreed! Would be a great pick-up for a 4th or 5th; reward FAR outweighs the risk for that price.

Also agreed that we still take a CB in the 1st round. Love that battle-plan!

Anyone remember the tale of the scorpion that wanted to cross the river?
He went up to a turtle that was about to go across and asked for a ride.
The turtle said" NO way. You will sting me!"
The Scorpion said" If I do that I will die as well!
The turtle thought it over and reluctantly agreed.
Halfway across the river the scorpion stung the turtle.
The turtle gasped"Now you will die as well- WHY?"
The scorpion said" Its my nature"

Pacman and trouble.
The Scorpion and the Turtle.
Dude, although that's a nice tale and all, it's been disproved by our recent acquisition of T.O., Tank, and Hamlin. All those guys were "It's in my nature" types before they became Cowboys; how do we feel about them now?

Today's Nashville City Newspaper reports that Jones has been given permission to seek a trade.

Coincidence?

Perhaps.

It also mentions that he can be traded while still under suspension:

Jones has been suspended since last April 10, but would not necessarily have to be reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell before a trade could be finalized, according to the league office.

“A suspended player can be traded like any other player under contract. (The team is trading the contract, in essence.) The trading period for this year begins on Friday,” league spokesman Greg Aiello said in an e-mail.

I would make the move now and give the Titans a low-round draft choice while his value is at its' lowest and wait for him to be reinstated.

And I believe due to the suspension, he has 3 years remaining on his rookie deal at salaries of $1.3 million, $1.75 million, and $2.2 million. You could have the option of keeping those numbers - which are more than reasonable - or re-signing him to an incentive-based, behavioral clause contract.

To me, it looks more and more like this is gonna happen.

7th round pick. That's it. Anything more than that is a risk due to his need to be reinstated to even play. That isn't a given.

I'd still rather wait for the Eagles to release Lito Sheppard.

I think it's most assuredly a risk no matter what pick the team gives up.

And a risk I would insure against by drafting a cornerback with a 1st round draft choice as well.

But I wouldn't have a problem giving up a 5th rounder if that's what it takes.

How many recent draft picks didn't make a contribution anyway. The guy's a bonehead, but there's no denying his talent. He could come in tomorrow and be at least the third best cornerback and best punt returner on the team. And even if he screws up and never plays again, is a 5th round draft choice too much to gamble?

And in my opinion, there's no way Lito Sheppard gets released.

Even if he did, he would cost $7 - $8 million a year given the current NFL landscape. The Cowboys' cap situation most likely couldn't afford that.

We've had some good luck with some players with off the field issues, but that doesn't mean we should collect these types of players. I'm not on the Pac Man Jones coming here bandwagon. Let's just concentrate on getting a CB in the 1st round this year. We need a good, strong, large core of high character players on this team.
