FWST Blog: Wildcat for Cowboys

This is pure smokescreen.

Even if the team wanted to do this, which I seriously doubt, you wouldn't come out and announce it to the world this way. Not even Jerry does that.

And if RJ wouldn't run the wildcat last year when Brad Johnson was singlehandedly killing us and we already had Stanback on the roster, I don't see us doing it next year.

If we do try it why not use Felix. At least he's fast enough to get to the corner.

What a foolish Idea.

Using the wildcat is fine if you have the people in house to do this already.

Drafting people to do this is ridiculous and a waste of time. If I am romo and I come off the field for this, well I am not going to be happy.

and ultimately, if you are so interested in this why not keep the coaches here who created it, you know the ones that were already here and employed with the team instead of getting rid of everyone?
If we run it like Miami, Romo doesn't leave the field, he's a wideout.

Awesome, He can throw it and catch it.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to have to play Jon Kitna because Romo gets popped playing WR for a gadget play?

Does this team ever start trends rather than simply follow what everyone else did the year before?

Don't be ridiculous. Not even Terrell Owens can do that.

From all the sorts of plays I've seen out of the Wildcat that is really not a danger. The biggest danger he would be in would be on a QB throwback pass - Wildcat QB takes the snap, laterals to Romo who hits the FB on a streak, something like that. Very little danger to him out there, unless he decides he wants to block someone.

As long as this doesn't make Jones thirst for Pat White in the second round, I am fine with it. It might be nice to get some use out of Stanback.

Crayton could do it too.

The only issue is that I think this fad won't last and the last thing teams need to do is get talent specifically for it. It is fine to dabble in but late in the year, teams figured out how to beat it. It won't be around long IMO.

Right. Like the old run & shoot offense. We will soon be hearing the old line....no team that uses the run & shoot has made it to or won the SB....

But considering the wildcat is not constantly used as the run & shoot was.

So a team may get there and win, if not relied on to be their offensive staple to win games.

noooooooooooooo jerry-please tell me its a smoke screen.this will be your dumbest idea yet.

Probably just normal "Jerry Speak". And we know what that translates to....

The WR from Penn State, D Williams (I think) also could play that role. I think he did some of it while at Penn State.

I believe you are correct

that would be something to watch out for, and besides Dallas has already spoken to Derrick

forget the wildcat and go straight to the option

I'm serious, that would be pretty sick

We ran it with Quincy in the preseason.

I've tried to blot out those days from my sub-conscience

but couldn't you imagine how sick it would be to run the option with Felix Jones??

Yes, I would puke all over myself.

Wildcat was not looking overly impressive late in the season as DC started seeing it more often. Nothing wrong with trying to mix things up but I still see this as nothing more than a trick play.

No kidding. It preys on a defense with a four man rush that doesn't spy the QB. If you spy the QB, it is far less effective.

I think once DC started seeing it and knew what to expect Miami success was nothing like it was early in the season using the wildcat as well as other teams who were trying it. It is great to catch a team off guard but the more you use it the less effective it becomes. I’m more interested in the base offense producing than a play you may use every now and then

I hate the Wildcat!

Why?

Why would you take the best player off the field on any snap???

Do you think Manning or Brady are coming off the field? Nope!
