I firmly believe Tennessee is dragging their feet because they didn't appreciate the enthusiasm PacMan exhibited in his desire to move on to the Cowboys.

Bud Adams played second fiddle to Dallas during his entire Houston Oiler era...

Making a deal with Dallas for Pacman and it panning out probably doesn't sit well with him. It would be as bad as kissing your sister... well, to most of us anyway...

COWBOYS OWNER “NOT AT ALL” SURE ABOUT PACMAN

Posted by Michael David Smith on April 16, 2008, 2:45 p.m.

Asked today whether he’s confident that suspended cornerback Pacman Jones will be reinstated, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones answered, “not at all.”

There has been widespread speculation that the Cowboys and Titans will work out a trade that would send Pacman to the Cowboys. Pacman said yesterday that he’ll wait on applying for reinstatement until the Titans trade him to a team that actually wants him, but Jones doesn’t sound optimistic that a trade — or Pacman’s reinstatement — will happen.

The Star-Telegram reports that Jones made the comments at a luncheon at Southern Methodist University. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was the guest speaker at the event.

“It’s pretty much just floating out there without much energy or activity around it,” Jones said of talk that Pacman will be back in the NFL and playing with the Cowboys in 2008. “It’s going to take more than just talk from Adam to get on the field.”

Cowboys owner has doubts that Pacman Jones will be reinstated

DALLAS -- There is no movement in the trade talks to acquire Pacman Jones from Tennessee, according to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

"It’s pretty much just floating out there without much energy or activity around it," Jones said Wednesday.

Jones was in Dallas attending the SMU Athletic Forum luncheon. The guest speaker was NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

Pacman Jones said on The Michael Irvin Show on ESPN radio Tuesday that he would wait until he’s traded before seeking reinstatement to the NFL.

However, Jerry Jones said he’s not confident that Pacman Jones will be reinstated by the league. "Not at all."

"It’s going to take more than just talk from Adam to get on the field."

I don't see how Tennessee can get too upset with Pacman. They were the ones who first said they didn't want him in their uniform again. Funny that he may have taken that personally and not want to return to the team.

In all liklihood this will drag on all the way until draft day. Maybe even the
2nd day like the Moss trade last year even though you know Jerry would like to have that "hay in the barn" before he makes his first pick.

There's not only the Bud Adams inferiority complex involved here.

Mosely wrote last month that the Titans front office guy (Can't remember his name) is the same guy who used to work for the Seahawks and ripped Jerry off in the Joey Galloway deal.

I have a feeling there are some personal issues attached to these negotiations.

I just think both sides are playing it the way it should be played.

It makes no difference if they trade him today or on draft day. Nonewhatsoever and it might mean that someone else enters the fray for whatever reason.

Adam Jones wants to go to Dallas and by saying he wont reapply until hes traded he is basically saying you will trade me because i will never play for you again.

Were basically saying there is no movement, we've done what we can to get this deal done and trying to mitigate his value.

I really do not expect this to get done til draft day no matter how many times Schefter tells us its imminent. He is getting played. Its only imminent in the Titans eyes becasue they are hoping someone will care and bid as well.

How was Jerry ripped off in the Galloway deal? I never heard this. I understand the deal was terrible for Dallas, but it was JJ making the decisions to trade those 2 1's for JG.

Galloway was franchised by the S-Hawks and JJ just paid them the going rate for franchise player. Were there other things involved?

Goodell in no rush on Pacman

Albert Breer E-mail News tips

CB Pacman Jones might be a little less worried about staging a PR campaign today, if he caught wind of anything that commissioner Roger Goodell told the media or the masses at the SMU Athletic Forum.

Goodell has been happy to hear what Jones has had to say over the last few weeks, while also assuredly adding that his actions are more important than his words.

"I'm encouraged by some of the things I'm hearing but I will meet with him before training camp starts to gage personally some of things he's doing," Goodell told us. "I will keep in touch with our people that are monitoring his progress."

There was no certain word on reinstatement. But the buzz phrase we kept hearing on that was "before the start of training camp." Translation: Don't hold your breath on it happening anytime soon.

"One of the issues I rose with Adam was I want to see a sustained period of time where he conducts himself the way an NFL player should conduct himself," the commish said. "That's why I gave him the opportunity to participate with the Titans immediately after the season. He had a hiccup. He had some thing that I didn't think reflect well on the league or himself, so I took that right away from him. At some point, I may reconsider that."

That "hiccup" came when Jones was accused of hitting a woman at an Atlanta strip club three months ago. Before the incident, the commissioner had granted Jones access to work out at the club's facility.

Jones is back to square one on that. Even if he's traded to Dallas, there's no guarantee he'll be able to join the team in any capacity before his reinstatement.

"He made a mistake, we met with him again, he understands that," Goodell said. "Like I say, I'm encouraged by some of the things he's doing. I'll continually keep up to speed on what's happening and I'll review it at the appropriate time."

Goodell also said that there was no need for Jones to "apply for reinstatement", and that he was unaware of the embattled corner's plans to do so.

So when asked about the "decision" by Pacman to not apply on Tuesday, the commissioner said he had no reaction. During his speech to the SMU people, he also was sympathetic to conditions under which Pacman grew up, conditions he said -- because of his own upbringing -- he couldn't full understand.

But in the end, he reiterated that there is no excuse for Jones' actions. And until Pacman demonstrates he can keep from repeating his mistakes, he may have a tough road to hoe in getting back into the NFL.

"He was told he was going to have to conduct himself in a more positive fashion, he was going to have to take responisibility for his actions," Goodell said. "And he seemed to indicate that on the Michael Irvin radio show

I think he means Reinfeldt thinks Jerry is a sucker and is waiting for him to fold.

Jones is the ultimate gambler. Reinfeldt would be better off skiing Niagra Falls than waiting on Jones to fold.

I'm saying the other guy got the better of that deal.

Going rate or not, I was driving down I-25 when I heard on the radio about the trade back in 2000. I almost had to pull over and puke. I felt ill. That was way to much to give up for that particular player.

I think that taught JJ a verrrry important lesson. I think he has learned from it. I really do. He really does things differently now.

Gone are the days of selling the Ranch for players.

Exactly. This is a tactful quote. Genius. He offers this quote at an event where the Commissioner is as well; leaving Bud Adams and the Titans thinking, "Sounds like Owner Jones knows something we don't know on the siuation. Take the deal."

The conclusion to this inevitable anyway.

I was happy.

Now I am sad again.

Because this deal won't change our draft philosophy, and because a player's value actually decreases after the draft when teams have used picks on guys to fill those roster spots, there is actually no reason in the world for the Dallas Cowboys to be in any hurry about this at all.

And JJ's comments about Pacman possibly not being reinstated is nothing more than posturing...it reinforces his position in regards to a deal with Tenn.

As fans, we're anxious, but who cares if it doesn't happen till the 2nd day of the draft when we're on the clock?

If we take a CB with one our 1st round picks, our bargaining position would be even stronger with the Titans. It would send a strong message to them that they need to take the deal offered or they may be stuck with Adam and end up cutting him and getting nothing in return.

I came out strongly opposed to the trade when it was first mentioned. I guess I could be "okay" with it as long as we acquire at least one CB in the draft. I don't want us to put our CB eggs in Pacrat's basket, though.
