Glenn update

Cowboys vice-president Stephen Jones said they expect wide receiver Terry Glenn to sign a $500,000 injury waiver for his surgically-repaired right knee.

Glenn, who has no agent and is representing himself for now, is due $1.74 million this season.

By signing an injury waiver, if he injures his right knee and goes on injured reserve, the $1.74 million would be nullified and he would be paid $500,000.

Terry Glenn. Where are you?

The Cowboys know where Terry Glenn is. We think.

One thing we know for sure is Glenn isn't at Valley Ranch working out. The Cowboys won't allow him to workout until he signs a $500,000 injury waiver. The waiver is in place in case Glenn re-injures his right knee, that needs another surgery in the future.

Glenn is unsure of what to do. But the Cowboys want to meet with Glenn. Stephen Jones, the Cowboys' VP, said so on Tuesday.

The Cowboys offered the injury waiver to Glenn before the draft for alot less money and he refused to sign it. Then it was upped to $500,000 and he still refused to sign. So this is where things are right now.

Once Terry Glenn does this (if he does) what precedent does it set for all future contracts? Does it set a precedent? How will the NFLPA react?

I can see where every team would want waivers like this.

Does this regularly happen and I'm just unaware of it?

Seems like a unique situation to me.

And I for one hope that the team decides to move on, not so much for the money aspect but for the wasted roster spot that could once again result.

While I'm very happy that the team has re-upped with Terrell Owens as I feel he deserves it, it has brought into clearer focus the team's precarious position at receiver.

It is always a bit of a gamble against Father Time by keeping older players, and the Cowboys are taking a calculated risk that Owens can stay healthy at age 34 and beyond.

That would be fine if they had any sort of a backup or contingency plan, but if they continue to count on Terry Glenn, that's too much of a gamble in my book and one that could come back to haunt a team with Super Bowl aspirations.

Nobody can replace Owens, but the team needs to have better options if he does get injured.

And Terry Glenn isn't one.

If he doesn't sign it I think Jerry will ramp up trade efforts.

i don't think we know what is going to happen with glenn. i'd love to see him come back for at least spot duty. romo is talking like it can happen. jones is simply hedging a bet. may not be a "nice" thing to do but he can't always bear the burden of an older player giving out and him having to pay an entire years salary for 2-3 plays, ya know?

it ain't a show w/o the drama.

Jerry should be doing that regardless. Terry Glenn is a luxury, I think it's realistic to expect that he'll be the same player that he was, and certainly not beyond this year.

i think he'd just cut him and let glenn go where he wants. to be honest, can you really get much for someone who you're pressing for an injury settlement on? is he passing physicals right now?

maybe it's cliche, but i can see jones cutting him and parcells taking him for 1 more year. would glenn want to go to miami to rebuild?

would seem to depend on the money. if he wants a shot at a ring, he'll stay and sign. if he wants longer term security, he's got $500k here or who knows out there. tough time to be glenn.

I think Hos was referring to trading for another receeiver, not necessarily a trade which would involve Glenn.

I can't see anyone giving the Cowboys anything for Glenn at this point.

HBO's Hard Knocks must be salivating already, never a dull moment in Dallas!

But back to Glenn, I can't envison a "spot-duty" scenario.

I think he can either play or he can't.

Trying to hold together his knee for a few deep posts during the season sounds like too risky a proposition for me.

The cartilage in that knee is gone and it's not coming back - unless he has the career-ending microfracture surgery.

Time to move on......

Read in one article that he never passed the end of season physical...and that he can't pass a physical now.

It's a matter of protecting them thru training camp. And that if he can't make it, they'll probably cut him.

yea, when all the rage of debates last year was glenn coming back for the playoffs, i was one of the "why does it matter"? people because i couldn't see him being effective. not after that layoff. i also said i don't think he'll be back because of age and overall wear/tear.

as usual the argument got hot and heavy and i got reamed for not knowing what i was talking about but in this instance, i felt i had a clue.

when it's all said and done sure - any player can go down with injury. you take that as it comes. but to set yourself up for it by counting on a player like glenn? we just can't do that and from what i can tell, jones isn't.

he didn't count on pacman, he won't count on glenn. the risks are just too high. but if he can hedge those bets, it makes them better for the business, if not the player.

jones usually takes care of the players and it's good to see him taking care of business like he has the last few years.

I din't mean that he'd try and trade Glenn, but rather that he'd try harder to acquire a veteran WR.

Glenn was paid a lot of money last year for zero production. I feel he owes Jerry not the other way around. No team will sign him as he can't pass a physical. SIGN THE DAMN PAPER OR HIT THE BRICKS.

I'm all for cutting losses. It's a roster spot issue for me, too.

Owens
Crayton
Hurd
Stanback
Amendola
Bradford/Austin

I can see the Dallas O being TE oriented down the field.

I wonder what kind of leverage he thinks he has if can't pass a physical?

That is something you never hear getting addressed.

Would this be the first domino? Would all teams start doing this next off season with their injured players? It's kind of a slippery slope but it always is when you venture into chartered waters for the first time.

Honestly, I'm surprised we have not seen Upshaw raising hell about this yet.

was wondering about that. hate to see it cause glenn has been such a great player for us - but if he can't pass the physical, he needs to take the $500k and maybe just walk. or limp.

i know i hate limping. damn heel spurs. : )

thanks wg.
