News: FWST: Garrett, Marinelli not happy with defense

Garrett always sounds like hes finding something new " hey, they moved the ball well on us, we had some penalites that helped them, I think we should do something about that". I hope the fans of his are very very happy.

I'm thinking Dodger12 might just have been being a little sarcastic there.;)

Everyone wanted a simple scheme... Well this is what happens when you do that with poor players. I like Marinelli okay, but he's a basic, try-hard coach who's not even trying to fool anyone, so offenses know what to do. When they have good players, they're going to win.

"Hopefully" improve?

that's our strategy. can you imagine coming up with that strategy in a business meeting?

So what are going to do Garrett?
Well, it sounds like wishfull thinking, but we hope we can improve...

Jason.... You're fired.

Red: Let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane.

Andy Dufresne: [in letter to Red] Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.

Red: [narrating] I find I'm so excited, I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head. I think it's the excitement only a free man can feel, a free man at the start of a long journey whose conclusion is uncertain. I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope.

Which is hilarious, because mean ole' Rob Ryan was too complex and they got confused. This is supposed to be the dumped down defense, and they still can't play sound football.

To appropriate words with or with out the past tense suffix

Any sane person with an ounce of objectivity would be unhappy with the defense. It was the worst in franchise history and has lost critical personnel. The defense doesn't get the benefit of the doubt after that. Until you actually see the defense play well, you should be concerned.

Marinelli said the defensive line didn’t get off blocks in the run game. Garrett agreed that the gap control was a problem but he added that the Cowboys didn’t get off blocks on any level of the defense.

“I think in general gap control wasn’t where it needed to be,” Garrett said. “I don’t think we got off of blocks well enough at any level, the defensive line level, the linebacker level, and I don’t think we tackled very consistently throughout the game. That’s whatever group was out there. So, great opportunities for us as coaches to go back and point that stuff out, continue to work on the technique of that in practice.”

Since I somehow cant get it to load on NFL.com, its good to have coaches confirm what many said last night

this. And for the second year in a row we addressed it as if it was a strenght.

I don't know why Garrett or Marinelli should be the least bit concerned. It's not like we had our starters in there or something. It'll all get better once the season starts and we turn the switch on. Until then, they should just be happy we came out the game relatively unscathed injury wise.

I predict we will force an incompletion once our starting CBs are back.

"Hopefully" is an appropriate word here... nobody knows how many of these longshots are capable of playing at an adequate level and the coaches have to make do with what their GM gives them,,,

Garrett and Rod weren't happy about what they saw last night? Really? You think? Say it ain't so.

The overreaction to the first preseason game of the year played by a defense minus 5 starters and the rest only playing for a series, is predictable but laughable.

Yes, the Cowboys were missing a number of starters on defense. That is a fact that should be considered in any appraisal of team performance last night.

However, according to the coaching staff, the success of this defense is going to be predicated on the depth of the defensive line and sending "waves" after the offense. That was our depth that was torn apart like wet tissue paper last night.

You are forgetting the power of "Hope". The Front Office utilized it all off-season.
