New backup quarterback Brandon Weeden impressed tight end Jason Witten as OTAs began.

“To hop in there and do as well as he did, I’ve been impressed,” Witten said. “You can tell he’s an older guy, very mature, strong arm. Picked up on the offense really quickly. Kind of took charge of the group in there, called the plays. That’s hard to do on your first day, especially when guys are used to one man’s cadence and his voice. Thought he did a really good job.

“I’m excited to work with him. I think he feels like he’s got something to prove. Been a great offseason with him.”

New offensive coordinator Scott Linehan also was pleased.

“He has two good years in the NFL now of experience and playing in a couple of systems. I think it really helped him,” Linehan said. “He’s in his third year. I think third years are really good years for quarterbacks to blossom and develop. He’s doing great. We’ve been really happy with what we’ve seen so far.”

Wait until the bullet start flying before anointing Weeden. He has always been considered chalkboard smart, mature and has the arm talent. It is his behavior in games when pressured that drove him out of Cleveland.

I don't think you'll find one person anointing Weeden. lol

I've seen two reports that he's doing well running the plays from inside the pocket, notsomuch when asked to be on the move. He loses a ton of accuracy when doing that.

Weeden has a good arm and is a smart guy.

He plays a position where unless you rely on your legs a lot (Vick) your age is not as big of a factor as it is at other positions. He has very low tread on his tires and was in a bad situation straight out of college, with no time to grow into the role.
I have no idea if he'll end up being good, but he's very worth giving a chance.

Dallas had him rated as a 2nd rounder when he came out, so at such a cheap price, it's worth it.

I agree. I think Weeden as the talent to be a very good QB his big downside coming out of college was his age. Based on some reports he needs to continue to work on passes thrown on the move, he is putting them up too high, inside the pocket he throws a good ball with good zip on his throws.

Weeden is all about timing based...... Guy can play! I think he will SERIOUSLY outperform Orton.

I hope he stays away. If he is not around with his teammates preparing for the season like he should be, I would as soon hope he stays away.

He will until veteran's mini-camp. Then he will show up to not be fined some money.
He will also show up for training camp to avoid being fined every day.
He will be here for the season cause he doesn't want to write Jerry that 3.3mil check to pay back signing bonus.
Wait & see!!!!!

This is false-information season. Everyone is in the best shape of their life. Every scheme change has players primed for the best year of their career. Make no mistake about it, if Romo goes down then the combination of a disinterested Kyle Orton and a mediocre Brandon Weeden isn't getting us anywhere.

There's no doubt.

And I can't believe we're going along with it. He should be cut immediately.

Weeden is a talented guy who just needed a change of scenery. He got that, now watch out!

If we cut him, which is what he wants, he gets to keep his signing bonus. Boys
are just waiting patiently because they have him over a barrel... That's as far as the
money goes.

Man I wish Parcells never made that "anointing" comment. Every time someone dares to praise anything about a player now it gets thrown out there.

The guys in OTA like what they've seen in Weeden so far. Simple as that. A positive thing.

I'm very happy that Weeden is our backup QB. He isn't great but he is better than what most teams have at backup.

Give me Weeden over the rag-armed, dink-and-dunk Orton any day of the week.

Not to mention a guy who actually wants to play football. Orton is just begging for Jerrah to cut him so he doesn't have to forfeit any money.
