Move Collins to RT..Don't use a premium pick on the OL..use all resources on other needs

The OL talent in the second round is pretty good for all the poopooing people have been doing over the class. Lots of guys that are 310+ and run a sub 4.8 shuttle coming out of big schools.

It always amazes me how little some here actually listen. Collins is not and I repeat NOT a RT. This much had already been said by our own coaching staff. The draft guys when he was drafted etc. I don't know why people refuse to listen lol

Quote it. I pay attention and I recall Garrett saying that they tried him at RT for a week but decided to keep him on the left side because he seemed much more comfortable over there.

Said it before and say it again, no such thing as a bad 1-year deal. If it was a motivation issue, maybe him seeing this as his chance to cash in gives him the motivation he needs. He couldn't ask for a better surrounding cast.
Greg. Hardy. Lol

“Obviously if we don’t get Leary re-signed, which will be difficult, then we see La’el as our starting guard.”

Another Stephen quote from the same day.

This is not an all or nothing situation. Collins is still a candidate to move outside. The discussion is from people saying he cannot play RT. That is false.

This man just made that up and the uninformed liked it.

Said by draft guys? Who?

Said by our coaching staff? Stephen Jones literally just said he could be an option there.

Did you watch him play at LSU? He's an OT or OG. As advertised.

Why not? I was really impressed by Cleary in his start against the Eagles. He looked a lot better than Free getting abused all game long. That's probably what convinced him to hang em up.

Clearly, Doug Free did not hang 'em up because of pressure from the Colts-Bucs-Raiders-Bengals-Giants-Cowboys Emmett Cleary. I'd like to see the guy in a training camp here before I let a rookie FA career PS player get a shot at the starting job, no matter how good he looked in that one game against PHI. If he pans out, great! More power to him. It's tough to make an NFL team from where he came from, much less get on the starting roster. But it'd be insane to consider the guy a potential starter based off of what he did last year. It's a higher likelihood he doesn't make the roster at all.

You guys crack me up...

Collins has struggled at pass protection as a guard...starting RT!

Cooper has been cut by 3 teams in 4 years...starting LG!

Sounds like a solid plan
Wrong! Cut by two an let's see what the guy can do. Did you think Leary would be effective at guard or Free at tackle until they were. People like you love to just **** on a guy instead and waiting and seeing.

i have no idea.
i dont understand why the FO did not even try collins at RT if he could be competent.
would they not at least test that in case of an injury to free.
what has happened makes no sense.
if they now say collins will be the rt, what in the world were they thinking before when we had leary AND collins.
free was clearly the 6th best ol on the team.
Collins has been groomed to be the successor at LG since day 1. The team didn't think he was a RT. Scouts don't think his best position is RT. The team the same year we got Collins drafted a 3rd tackle to be a swing tackle and eventually RT heir.

Sometimes when someone tells you what their intentions are believe em.

They liked Free, that's why. Free was a good run blocker and in 2015 wasn't bad against the pass. He regressed in pass protection in 2016, but was still a solid run guy. With him gone that changes everything.

I think guard is probably his best position, but Collins and either Cooper/draft pick could be a better duo than Collins and Green/Cleary
Haven't seen enough to judge if Cleary could start every week and don't know if he's a right tackle option.....I thought he played well when filling in for Smith when he was having back issues and Green has ability but his health has been a huge issue but I think Dallas will be drafting a tackle in the draft at some point, maybe in the first round if that's where the value is, don't see a defensive tackle/defensive end available worth taking late in the first round, more like Corner or safety with a possibility of a right tackle if one drops....

LOL....1st Rd pick on a RT

When can I place a bet this doesn't happen

Cardinals, Pats, and Browns....it's been 4 years and he's done nothing but fail so far. I'm pretty sure even Jonathan Cooper would tell you that, it's really not debatable. What do Leary and Free have to do anything? At all?

And I didn't **** on anybody, I have no problem with keeping Cooper around and hoping for the best. I just stated the obvious that it's ridiculous to pencil him in as a starter.

I meant based on his own performance against Philly.

As for Cleary, here's a tidbit I'm not sure if you know or not. He was rated as the #3 RT prospect in his draft by at least one draft source. It surprised me when I saw it.

Your right. Losing Leary and Free will be a setback. Its 2 starters out of 5. Free was not the bum some think he was and Leary should have been kept. Everybody hopes Cooper gets his game together...but its no certainty.

Actually I'm surprised more folks aren't suggesting Cleary as a possible RT.

I thought his work at LT in place when called upon last season was OK... Not great... Not horrible, which given his inexperience and such was... passable.

we drafted green to be a swing tackle after parnell left - i believe.
we got lucky after collins' incident...

Oh, I know. It seems like the poster was trying to justify his thinking that the team does not think Collins can play RT by stating they darfted Green knowing Collins is not a tackle. Green was here first (by a day or two).
