Ok but if he does not play this week then what difference does it make. He is taking up a roster spot for what was a pretty aggressive return from a serious injury, many here even suggested no way he is back by week 6. That is the issue he made a thin position thinner because his timetable was going to be fluid.

Take whatever time he would be back and add about 2-3 weeks onto it if he is on IR because he will need that time to get into game shape because on IR you cant practice.

Ok great but that does not address the roster sport he is occupying that could be used for another WR or another position that depth is low at. It is evident he is missing 4 games, the same 4 games he would have missed on IR or PUP, he should have been PUP'd because they would have a 3 week window to see and still have the "extra" roster spot until he pass the 3 week max evaluation window. But instead he was kept on the active roster and now we have the weekly wonder is he "mentally" ready to play.

Except regardless of what you put him on he is still going to have to not be on IR and added to the active roster at some point so if he is going to be ready by week 5 as an example then if you put him on IR he will not be ready until week 7 because he will need that ramp up time and he cannot practice at all until after week 4. Whatever practice squad level guy you find is not as important as having your number 2 (and if Lamb does not play better possibly your number 1) WR back sooner. You can use practice squad elevations to fill the gap in the meantime easily enough.

PUP he misses minimum required 4 weeks, after that once they activate whether week 5, week 6 or week 8 there is another maximum limit of 21 days he can practice, rehab or whatever for the team to decide to either IR or move to the active roster. So lets just say he was PUP he would miss weeks 1-4, gets removed from PUP following week 4 he then can practice for another 3 weeks max before he actually counts against the 53 man so they could milk it until week 7. Or make him active week 5 thus closing the 21 day window 2 weeks early.

But did he take up a roster spot. Another player would still need to be inactive, then eventually released. And if that was the case, then they would have to pay that player their years salary.

I rather they had left him on PUP and wait. But I am not going to let it worry me any either.
