I am thinking about downloading this book via the iPhone Kindle application.

According to some Websites on the Internet, as far as Fantasy Novels go, this is as good as it gets.

Just wanted to get some thoughts from those who have read it before buying it.

Weve had talks about it before. Use the search button if you want to look at it.

that bein said. I read the first two. Got halfway through the third and couldnt take it anymore. I really only cared about two of the characters and they just jumped back and forth to tons of others. My two friends got 100 pgs into the first and gave up.

I know its a very popular series though.

What kind of fantasy books do you read and maybe i can shoot you some suggestions.

I think I am going to read the preview first.

I just don't want a story that is too convoluted, arcane dialogue and way too many plots.

Covoluted check, too many plots check. They are meant to intertwine though.. I know there are some guys on here that have read all that have been realeased so maybe you could get their side of the story.

It isnt to hard to keep track of but its just not appealing.

Do you read alot of fantasy

To be honest, I am not a big reader but since I discovered iPhone apps like Stanza and Kindle, I have started to read a lot more.

I am reading the Three Musketeers right now.

To be honest, I really want to read this popular Japanese fantasy novel, which is what one of my favorite Japanese Animation TV Series is based off of but it isn't available through Kindle.

This is quite easily the best series I've ever read, and any of the books on their own (except for the fact that they're not complete stories by themselves) are better than any other book I've read.

After reading a few chapters, I have to say that this book is starting to get very interesting.

Initially, I was a little overwhelmed by all the family names, characters, places, things and concepts that were introduced but as you revisit each character, it gets a little easier to follow.

I agree with ChldsPlay. I picked up the first book about a year ago(even though it came out in 1996) to see what it was about upon recommendation on this board, and I couldn't put it down.

Other than the fact that he is a little batty in his political philosophy and is a diehard Giants/Jets fan, I have become a fan of his.

My suggestion would be to read the books from a high level the first time through...it does get a bit overwhelming if you try to track who is who from the outset(there are over 1,000 names mentioned already). You don't really have to memorize everyone to get the gist of the plot anyway as he focuses on a main few characters for the most part with dashes of "unimportant" POV characters to allow you to take a step back. After you get through the series though, you'll find yourself wanting to learn them and that is when you start seeing things in an entirely new light. You'll start understanding the vague profesies that meant absolutely nothing to you at first, start looking for the hints you missed the first time as far as the political scheming goes, and he puts enough cliffhangers in to leave you frothing for the next book...which given his reputation is never a set in stone date. There have been 4 books of 7 published with book 5 almost complete...like it was 2 years ago and book 4 came out in 2005.

Funny thing though...even though his fans complain about the wait...they still linger because they are that good. My cousin tried about half a book and didn't like it, but I think that is because he could see that Martin has no qualms about killling off someone that you like. Also, the magic is very subtle in the series compared to other fantasy novels as it is more realistic than anything in the genre that I've read. I like that though because I can actually relate to the characters better.

Let us know what you think about it when you get through.

Right now, the story I find most interesting is Danny's. Ned's character is interesting, but there is just a ton of dialog and names with his Point of View.

I found this youtube video that shows the Game of Thrones cast so far.

I must say, this booking is extremely good.

After the Amazon Kindle preview sample was up, I still wasn't convinced how good it would be but I went ahead and bought the full version anyway.

I am glad I did as this is one of the best fantasy books I have ever read up until this point.

Can't wait to see this on HBO.

Best series ever written.. by far.

4 books in the series out currently. 5th one out this year. 7 total planned.
The books tend to be large, 800-1200 page count.

It's a lot to take in as the series is more in depth than most even come close to, but I've never read anything as good. Noting even comes close.

And the Game of Thrones TV series is being released next year with an amazing cast.. Can.. not.. wait.

Yeah, it is kind of hard to gage how big the book is as purchased it through the Kindle Bookstore.

Who is your favorite character?

For me, it would have to be Tyrion Lannister.

Best book series ever. Some people are put off by the realism of it (by realism I mean what would really happen in that setting), but that's what drew me to it. Characters actually have depth. No one is all good and no one is all evil.

Love the series. Just hated that the author took a hiatus to work on other books instead of continuing the series after the last released book.

I'm not sure I can pick a favorite, but Tyrion would definitely be up there. Daenerys (sp?) is also very interesting to me, and not because I like 14 year old girls who bare their breasts (though I heard for the series they were going to increase her age a few years), but because I find her part in the story to be intriguing since it is so separate from the rest of the stories but will obviously come together, and soon I think.
