I'm not sure I can pick a favorite, but Tyrion would definitely be up there. Daenerys (sp?) is also very interesting to me, and not because I like 14 year old girls who bare their breasts (though I heard for the series they were going to increase her age a few years), but because I find her part in the story to be intriguing since it is so separate from the rest of the stories but will obviously come together, and soon I think.

Agreed.

Behind Tyrion, Danny is my favorite for most of the reasons you stated. It is going to be fun to watch her grow up, learn the Dothraki language and and become stronger.

It snowed in Dallas, so I literally stayed indoors and read this book for most of day.

Things just got very interesting in the royal court after a certain boar hunting expedition.

Best book series ever. Some people are put off by the realism of it (by realism I mean what would really happen in that setting), but that's what drew me to it. Characters actually have depth. No one is all good and no one is all evil.

Yeah it's a very realistic "Grey" world instead of the usual fantasy "Black/white" world. It's what I love most about it.

You might love/hate a character in book 1, only to reverse your opinion on them by book 3.

And Tyrion is definitely my favorite character. Arya probably comes in second.

Let us know how your read is going. It's fun to discuss the books with people who are just getting into it. Lay any theories you have about things here. It's fun to see what people think while they read things.

Anybody know where I can find a good map of the Game of Thrones World?

There is one at the beginning of the book, but it is scanned in on the iPhone Kindle app and too small to read.

I literally just started this series last night and I'm about 200 pages in and I love it already. I'm hoping to get totally caught up before the series on HBO starts.

You wont regret. The world George Martin creates is one of intrigue, backstabbing royal politics, assasinations and endless adventure. I absolutely loved the series and encourage anyone who is looking for a new start w/ a book to check out Game of Thrones, you won't be sorry.

I am an old fan and had to wait a few years for Feast for Crows to come out. I remember checking his updates weekly only to be dissapointed there wasn't much of an update other than GRRM was working on his other writing interests.

So glad he is back writing this again.

Just finished the book and man, what a great book and even greater ending  .

I just pray that the second book is available through the Kindle Bookstore.

I'm only about 200 pages from the end. I should finish it tonight or tomorrow. The amount of twists and turns is pretty crazy at this point.

Started reading A Clash of Kings yesterday and this great series just keeps moving right alone.

The conversations between Cersei and Tyrion are golden.

Damn it, i had promised myself (and the wife) that i wasn't going to buy any more books for a while. After reading your and other's feedback i think i might have to break that promise. If my wife has an issue with it I'm just going to blame it on you if you don't mind.

Does anyone have the name of all the books in the series? There are seven altogether, right? Are they all already and available for purchase?

Only 4 have been published so far. The wait for the 5th is going on about 3 years or so now, but hopefully that'll be this year sometime.

The books are:

A Game of Thrones
A Clash of Kings
A Storm of Swords
A Feast for Crows

The fifth book will be:
A Dance with Dragons

I don't mind at all.

When I first started reading the first book, I thought there were too many characters, places, concepts and families. But throughout the book, the all the aforementioned is repeated from different points of view, so you have a strong understanding of everything eventually.

I liked it very much. I will stop short of saying it's the best I've read but it was a very good story and will definitely make you want to continue the series.

I am looking forward to Jon and Arya parts in the next book. I really thought Arya's was left hanging.

The next book starts with her. So, no time is wasted getting back to it.

I'm still wondering why everyone and their mother has arrived at King's Landing except Ser Thorne Alliser.

I have read fantasy novels since I was about 8 yrs old. If I had a bad day at school or w/ my family or friends, I could always escape to my room and fall into one of my books and be swept away to that world. It is those feelings I always look for when reading a book. I typically stick w/ authors who write series books. The following are some of my very favorite authors.

George R R Martin

R. A. Salvatore ( HUGE FAN )

Margaret Weis

Tracy Hickman

Ed Greenwood

Raymond E. Feist ( Some of the best books I have ever read )

Robin Hobb

Robert Jordan
