I have read fantasy novels since I was about 8 yrs old. If I had a bad day at school or w/ my family or friends, I could always escape to my room and fall into one of my books and be swept away to that world. It is those feelings I always look for when reading a book. I typically stick w/ authors who write series books. The following are some of my very favorite authors.

George R R Martin

R. A. Salvatore ( HUGE FAN )

Margaret Weis

Tracy Hickman

Ed Greenwood

Raymond E. Feist ( Some of the best books I have ever read )

Robin Hobb

Robert Jordan

I hadn't read anything in many years until I read Game of Thrones. I used to read all the time when I was younger but I have been into gaming so much it took up all my free time.

When I did read I liked:

Tolkien of course
Robert Jordan
Piers Anthony
Barbara Hambly

I also liked the Necroscope series by Brian Lumley which is Horror but a good series anyway. I started The Dark Tower series by Stephen King back when he only had 3 books out and loved it. I am going to reread those and pick up the rest of the series after I finish A Song of Ice and Fire.

Hobb is another good one. I didn't really like Robert Jordan a whole lot though. His Wheel of Time series started off well, but soon became boring. It felt like a chore reading it toward the end.

Book 6 is tentatively titled "The Winds of Winter" and book 7 "A Dream of Spring."

If any of you are having trouble following due to the depth, here is a good site to get a synopsis of the chapters and recall characters you may have forgotten: http://www.towerofthehand.com/books/

There are also some prequels to A Song of Ice and Fire that took place about 100 years before the events of the main story. All are short stories(novellas) about Dunk & Egg(a hedge knight and his squire). Their titles are "The Hedge Knight", "The Sworn Sword", and "The Mystery Knight." They are ok, but all told from the perspective of the hedge knight Dunk(not the sharpest sword in the armory). I've read the first two and will read the last hopefully this weekend(as it was just released about two weeks ago).

Just like to add my favorite authors:

The one who started it all - Terry Brooks. Sword of Shannara was the first fantasy novel I ever read.

Raymond Feist
David Eddings (The Belgariad)
