Same thing with John Mackovich. In 1996, he wins the first ever Big XII title by upsetting #1 Nebraska and goes tothe Fiesta Bowl. Next year, he goes 4-7 and gets fired literally minutes after the A&M game. Now, that one happened to work out well for Texas, but they may not be so lucky with their next hire.

At least the skill position talent is better. Brown, Shipley and Goodwin are all solid players.

There was a WHOLE lot more going on with Mackovich than just a bad start...

Also, most any top coach would love to take the job at UT as you have great recruiting grounds...

Texas needs to find its QB. I have no idea about Gilbert. He looked good last week.

I think they will setttle in w/ McCoy at QB. He is much better than Gilbert.

I expected more from the Texas running game, w/ the backs you have.

I think Texas wins this game, but yeah..there is some work to do before the RRR game. Mack's def capable of getting them prepared.

If we didn't edge cal back in 04 to get to the Rose bowl I think Mack would have been fired. Luckily for all of us we got in, deservedly so, that rose bowl game was incredible, while Cal got pounded by tech in the Holliday bowl

when Mack starts getting beat 66-3 at home to UCLA you can say it's the same thing, this is just as good a call as the Mack riding Gilbert till he retires thing you called earlier.

Considering the caliber of the respective UCLA teams, last years three score thrashing by them in Austin might have been just as bad.
