Lot of Mormon Hawaiians? huh......

Something like 20% of the native population is mormon these days thanks to all the missionaries over the past 50 years.

They would immediately be the fifth best program in the conference, and not far behind Missouri.

And good enough to beat any team, any given Saturday! Plus they are good at basketball too

For Texas, at least it looks like the Gilbert Era is over. They're bringing back speed on offense with Ash. When Gilbert took over, they tried to become a smash-mouth football team but that's just not their style. They've always recruited speed, not strength on offense

Dump Gilbert and build around Ash/Malcolm Brown for the next 3 years.

Texas needs to find its QB. I have no idea about Gilbert. He looked good last week.

I think they will setttle in w/ McCoy at QB. He is much better than Gilbert.

I expected more from the Texas running game, w/ the backs you have.

I think Texas wins this game, but yeah..there is some work to do before the RRR game. Mack's def capable of getting them prepared.

Well, I'm glad this game was in Austin because it probably would have been a different result had it been in Prove.

We got a little lucky tonight.

The biggest thing to come out of this game is that Mack finally grew a spine and benched Gilbert (why didnt he do this last season) and Brown looks like the real deal. Texas' offensive line still needs a lot of work, though. Texas still can't do anything when the defense knows they are running, like on third and fourth and short.

David Ash is doing a great job and all, but McCoy to Shipley gave me chills.

I agree completely. In two years he will be winning the Heisman and everyone will forget the bad things they've said of him. Just wait and trust, everything will be okay.

I think it will be McCoy/Brown/Shipley.

Word, o line needs to improve, we lost a big recruit on signing day to auburn that really hurt us. I was very impressed by the defense! We seem to find these defensive coordinators all the time! Wonder who Diaz will be the head coach of in 5 or 6 years, prob Georgia! Lol

True, but I think it's clear Ash is the better QB

Ash opened the game up for the offense. He makes that zone read offense legit because the defense actually has to take him into account + Malcolm Brown on the handoff/fake. Being that threat on the zone read is what made Texas offense so dangerous with VY and Colt.

McCoy made some nice throws but Texas will need Ash more IMO. They'll probably continue using both of them in the rotation though

Word, I love that he goes to block after he hands it off too!

I'm sure we'll hear all about their BFF exploits on College Gameday just like we did for their brothers.

Good Riddance Gilbert Grape

I am so stoked for the 2nd generation of McCoy to Shipley....HOOK EM

I feel for Gilbert but clearly he is not getting it done. I think he has seen his last start as the QB of the Longhorns. It was pretty neat seeing McCoy to Shipley and was also impressed with the job Ash did. One thing for sure Texas seemed to get energized when they made the QB change from Gilbert to these guys.

The combination of tough inside running to slow the pass rush and keep the LBs and Safety honest in conjunction with some very key short to intermediate pass completions allowed Texas to put some drives together in that second half. BYU game Texas all it wanted and as I said after the game, had Texas been in Provo, they would likely have lost.

Heck of a showing for BYU I thought.

BYU is not a team to be taken lightly. They had a rough year to start the season last season but got things going late. As for Texas with the combo of Brown at RB and the 2 young QB's I think Texas has a chance to make some noise this season.

Really looking for a bit of payback next weekend at UCLA

Yeah Texas can't seem to beat them in football. That needs to change Saturday.
