Garrett appreciation thread

Wait so people can’t argue zeke is under appreciated? The guy who has been a rock for this team the last 4 years.

As opposed to the coach who has had more talent than any other coach the past 10 years and can’t win with it? A coach who doesn’t use analytics? A coach who doesn’t make halftime adjustments. A coach who has pretty much been ripped by all his peers at this point?

I appreciate he tried and he knows he got a fair shake after 10 years. Time to move on if no NFC Championship. It’s a tall task but anything is possible.

The same Kellen Moore and Richard that people were in love with after the first 3 games but were continuously bashed almost every game after that until the Rams?

There is no point debating who did what because we don't know for certain and probably won't know.

Many think that Kellen Moore was giving more freedom at the beginning of the season and that Garrett then forced him to run the Garrett style offense which caused them to regress.

The Cowboys offense against the Rams looked more like what seems to be the Kellen Moore style and less like what we've come to know as the Garrett style.

The Richard-Marinelli dynamic has been similar on the defensive side. The Marinelli scheme was exposed in the playoff game against the Rams and this season opponents just followed the blueprint that the Rams used.

It seemed that Kris Richard was attempting to tweak the defensive scheme but also trying to maintain the basic Marinelli DLine concepts.

In the Rams game, it finally appeared that they have moved past "tweaks" and implemented legit scheme changes which included assignment and technique changes for the DLinemen.

They didn’t out coach them. Out coaching shows up in the last 2-5 minutes of a ball game when a coach is really needed. Garrett is the worst in that time frame.
Lol, ok. So according to you, turnovers, dropped passes, missed FG’s, etc have nothing to do with a team winning or losing?

So the final 2 minutes of the 1st half don’t matter either? Here’s a hint, every minute of the game matters, not just the final few minutes of the end of the game...that’s ridiculous.

But everyone bashed Richard after the Rams playoff game while simultaneously making excuses for him that he was distracted from other job interviews o_O

You’re right, no one does no for sure but we do know Jerry took away Garrets play calling abilities years ago. I also know anytime we win it’s because of Moore but anytime we lose it was Garrett? People just throw crap out there to see what sticks and because they’re sick of Garrett (understandable) but it’s absurd to think one game Garrett is calling plays and the next it’s Moore which is what you would have to believe according to the people who give credit to Moore after a win but bash Garrett after a loss.

A theory I heard on the radio is that Garrett took over play calling because he knows his job is on the line and doesn’t want his job to be in the hands of Moore. Imagine that.

I don't buy into emotional fan/media narratives.

I study game footage and listen to what the Jones boys say in all of their interviews and not just the interviews that make the most headlines.

I wanted to like this post for the first part but can’t for the second part, lol. I would put more stock in what some people say here than the Jones boys constant verbal diarrhea, especially Jerry.

Does the head coach and his staff get the team prepared to play the game? Poor preparation leads to poor performance no matter how good the players are!

Maybe for little league. They all practice blocking and catching every week. They are professional football players. Coach has nothing to do with dropping a pass, missing a kick or whiffing blocks or tackles.

Why not? A 90 million dollar purse carrying punk diva who held this team hostage until he was over paid gets an appreciation thread for showing up in ONE game (mainly due to the O line) yet has lost us games and cost JG his job because he couldn’t handle the work load or hold on to the ball but JG continues to get bashed.

Garrett just schooled everyone’s favorite coach, one of the few they constantly reference when talking about hiring a new coach. Everyone can point to a few coaching decisions in each game that allegedly cost the team a win or loss but rarely to the players, especially fan favorites or golden girls like Zeke, get the blame. We were put in a position to win against NO (another coaching guru) and who cost us the game when it was on the line? Hint: it wasn’t JG yet he received the blame. Crucial 3rd down against the Bears, who took himself out of the game because he couldn’t handle the work load that he demanded to be paid for? Hint: it wasn’t JG.

Point being, like most games this season, McVay was out coached last night. The difference is our players finally did their jobs, pretty amazing what happens when they do what they’re paid to do, huh? I’m not saying JG should be extended, he’s been here too long, let him be the scape goat for another team, but lets give some credit where credit is due which isn’t a RB who demanded to be paid the highest at his position for doing his job behind the second best O line in the league a few times a season.

Red Ball, is that you? Damnit, you have an NFC East Championship to win. Stop browsing the internet and get back to watching film! It's not our fault Zeke can't carry you every game.

Extracting information from what people say does not always mean taking what they say literally.
- Jerry's emotions tend to come out even when his actual words seem nonsensical.
- Jerry expressing a different sentiment than he has in the past has been a clue to changes before.
- When Jerry / SJones express different opinions, what actually happens afterwards?

Comments and "Tone" with regards to Garrett in 2019:
  • Jerry in 2018 expresses total support for Garrett as always.
  • Stephen Jones in early 2019 radio interviews says Garrett has not met requirements.
    • Mentions not getting a good return on investment.
  • Jerry in 2019 press conference to open training camp refuses to answer questions about Garrett.
    • When has Jerry ever had a no comment type situation?
    • Jerry's no comment was to pretend he didn't hear the questions.
  • Jerry starts to express negative sentiments about Garrett during the 2019 season.
Subjects where Jerry / Stephen express different opinions:
  • How does what actually happens compare with those opinions.
  • Example 1:
    • SJones often expresses opinions about not over-paying free agents, etc..
    • Jerry has never shown a focus on avoiding big money free agents.
    • What actually happens:
      • The Cowboys for several years have avoided over-paying for free agents.
  • Example 2:
    • Jerry expressed strong desire to draft Johnny Football both before and after that draft.
    • Jerry expressed strong regret about not trading up and picking Paxton Lynch in that draft.
    • SJones downplayed both players.
    • What actually happened:
      • The Cowboys did not draft or attempt to draft either player.

Where was that overpaid mouth breathing Ewok for me in New Orleans or Minnesota or Chicago? Oh...that’s right, he kept asking me to feed him, so I did, then he asked to be taken out on a critical 3rd play!

u just made my point. All things in bold are 90% players 10% coaching.

And the final 2 minutes of a football game are way more important that the first two. Clock management is why. You don’t have to worry about that in the first 50 minutes of a game but you need good game and clock management skills to close out a game or come back in a game. If I need to explain this to you it’s prob not worth arguing with u about it

And what level of high school, college or pro athletics have you played or coached. You are dead wrong on your assessment of this.

Did I ever say Garrett doesn’t need to go? Find one time this year where I have said that and provide the quite or shut your mouth.

You clearly don’t out much value in accuracy, just spew your verbal diarrhea to try and prove a point.
Who is the idiot that just got caught defending a coach he just admitted needs to be fired?

..."The Last Stand of Jason Garrett,"...Coming In January!... To a theater near you!...lol:star:

Garrett amazes me. He has made millions of dollars clapping and butt slapping players. Very successful snake oil salesmen indeed.

So in the final two minutes if a coach sets the team up to win and the player fumbles than it’s still on the coaching?

You wouldn’t have to worry about the final two minutes of a game if they out coached the other team the entire game. You’re automatically assuming every game is within a TD in the final two minutes and every player does their job.

You’re right, it’s not worth explaining to me because it’s one of the dumbest theories I’ve ever read on this board...only the final two minutes matter in coaching, lol. Please just stop responding, I’m already dumber for having read your post.

Yeah, he’s had long enough but that doesn’t mean every loss is due to coaching. Sorry if that is too hard for you to understand but with the millions of ridiculous ideas that you feel the need to post every time one pops in your feeble mind I’m not the slightest bit surprised.

when has that happened?

2011 Jets - Romo fumble on the goalline, block punt TD, then lose on a Nick Folk (just cut) kick.

2011 Lions, Up 24 points in the 3rd Q yet Garrett has Romo slinging the ball and he throws 2 pick sixes to start the second half.

2011 Patriots - Running the ball 3x with 4 minutes left in the game and punting back to Tom freaking Brady who drives down the field for the game winning TD.

2012 Giants - Go down 23-0 at home, Dez finger on backline endzone OOB.

2012 Commanders - Thanksgiving Day Massacre to RG3.

2012 Saints - Lose Wk 16 home game to hapless Saints which would have clinched the division.

2012 Commanders - lose Week17 winner take all on a Romo pick to the flats in the last 2 mins.

2013 Broncos - We score 48 points at home and have a QB who throws for 500yds and 5TDs and still lose.

2013 Lions - Calvin Johnson 329yds and Stafford QB sneak TD at the buzzer.

2013 Saints - Allow 40 first downs to the Saints (NFL record) & 625 total yards (franchise record).

2013 Eagles - Lose Week 17 winner takes division game at home.

2014 Eagles - Mark Sanchez Thanksgiving Massacre.

2014 Packers -Dez caught it but we gave up a 8pt lead to one-legged Rodgers.

2015 entire season - Go 1-11 without Romo.

2016 Giants - Terrance Williams inexplicably doesn't go out of bounds on GW drive, time runs out.

2016 Packers - Go down 21-3 in home playoff game, go pass-happy in RZ, lose opportunity at home Super Bowl.

2019 Packers - Can't win w/out Davante Adams

2019 Jets - Lose to 0-4 team with a QB returning from mono.

2019 Patriots - One missed FG, one blocked punt, delay of game on punting unit, illegal shift on punting unit, three miss handled kickoff.

LOOK at all of these! 95% bad coaching and poor clock management. The jets game the first one was the worst. Just needed to come away with a fg after Lee int and your boy runs three straight pass plays from the 2 yard line setting up his qb and team for failure. The Detroit game was pathetic and so where many others. Froze his own kicker, lol, who else does **** like this. Walk away man, never gonna win this argument. Only makes you look like a moron
