Garrett expectations?

All I've seen is you saying Romo can't do this, Romo can't do that. Just calling it like I see it. If you have posts all over the place, I haven't seen them. But I've only been around a short time.

I suggest you check the archives for all the many posts I have talking about all the many things he "can" do well. i don't say anything about Romo positive or negative that I can't provide a number of facts and stats to back up my opinion.

The biggest knock on Garrett to me was his play calling. Now that it is a non-issue, I think he has this team going in the right direction.
He may do some questionable things at times, but he seems like the kind of guy who learns from every single mistake.

I've been critical of his play calling at times as well. In fact I wondered if he was the right guy for the job or if he was ready for it. I've finally decided he's the right guy. And while I wondered about his play calling I also defended him a fair amount esp in short yardage situations and around the goal line. If you can't run the ball in those situations you are just hamstringed.

You can say what you want but I don't think many here can argue that the overall talent on this team hasn't improved since he became HC. And that was perhaps our most glaring problem along with being cap strapped from past bad decisions.

I do understand that the state of the O-line affects what he calls, but more times than not I could call run or pass with Garrett. If I can do it, so can the opposition. Granted there are only two options but I do believe he is predictable and not creative at all.

I do believe he directly impacts who we draft. I think the front office really trusts his input. Whether or not he was on board with trading down this year, we may never know. We do know that the last three drafts are as of today better than the prior three.

In my opinion it was more the lack of execution than the play calling although Garrett did get way too conservative at times. His conservative play calling in the closing minutes vs NE in 2011 cost the Cowboys that game. The biggest knock on Garrett has been his inability to manage games which is one of the main reasons he won't be calling the plays. Jerry wants to free him up so he can concentrate on managing games better. There's been issues when and when not to call timeouts no bigger issue than in the infamous icing the kicker game vs AZ in 2011. There's been a lot of confusion with players not knowing when to be on the field or where to lineup. We saw players not hustling in the closing minutes vs the Ravens last season which cost the Cowboys valuable time in which they could have run another play that could have made the FG attempt easier.

Garrett's game management has been under a lot of scrutiny the past 2 seasons. With the effort being made to try and help him improve in that area he doesn't have much wiggle room left. Jerry has made every effort to try and make it workable with Garrett as the HC. The way the NFL is today it's hard to put teams away especially when you're a mediocre team. The Cowboys biggest margin of victory last season was only 15 points. It's going to be a dogfight practically every week this season so managing games is going to be critical to the Cowboys success.

Make the playoffs and win two playoff games. That is my expectation. One playoff win will be better than none, and I will still want Garrett around. No playoffs again and its going to be very hard to convince hes heading this team in the right direction.

Agreed. Game management has been a much more problematic area of concern than play calling since I'd put play calling in some situations like that ND game as part and parcel of game management.
