Either the Cowboys evaluation process is not great and they did not think Dak was a franchise QB and lucked into him

Or

The Cowboys have a great and accurate QB evaluation process and knew Dak was a franchise QB but stupidly decided to wait until the end of Rd 4 to pick him up

Take your pick and don't try to squirm your way out of it

Dallas evaluates players as all teams do, there is no way to tell if a guy is a franchise player or not. You work players out, you grade players out, you spend time with players, and you interview the players and try to come up with a conclusion. Did Dallas draft Dak thinking this was a franchise QB? No they drafted a kid they felt had talent and could develop into an NFL player. How good could that player be? Who knows but teams not just the Cowboys spend the time and work these kids out the best they can and on draft day you put up or shut up. Cowboys drafted him others didn't. you want to call it luck fine all 32 teams are living on luck the rest of it is just you mealy view of the Cowboys and the organization and I'm not going to waste my time on that kind of stupidity.

Why is everyone so defensive of the pick? They scouted him quite a bit, wanted him, got him and it worked out. The "luck" portion is that they were unsuccessful with the other qbs they targeted ahead of him. I don't understand why that's controversial. Yes they wound up allocating their draft resources well and got players in the spots they did AND Dak, great board awareness. Awesome. But the lynch and cook moves that didn't work are lucky they didn't. Simple.

The only wrinkle other than that straightforward case is if it's true they planned on drafting him regardless. In that case, no luck, good planning

In any event who cares. We got him.

I also don't see what's so special about garret in this article. He asked him about the DUI and made him discuss plays and coverage? No ****

I got this funny image of Garrett being a HC and interviewing Ryan Leaf before that draft.

"Look! Knock it off coach!!!!"

As far as other QB prospects, Garrett has always stressed BPA. He also doesnt beleive on putting all hIs eggs in one basket. I'm convinced that even if the Cowboys had taken LYnch or Cook, they would still have drafted Prescott.

It wouldn't be unheard of in the NFL, not even with the abbreviated 7 rounds.

The Commanders took Cousins and RGIII in the same draft, and who is their starter? The Bronco drafted two in 2004.

I think they wanted Dak.

Looks like the gods are shining on the Cowboys. Imagine if we got a Super Bowl caliber QB in the 4th round for pennies on the dollar, which allows us to draft a stud running back and will allow us to draft all defenders next season. We could become a dominant team because of Dak's 4th round dollar.

I know that so many of you want all defenders in the next draft but the odds of available defensive talent lining up with our picks in every round probably isn't going to happen realistically. If you take the best player available (which we should) you take the available talent and hopefully it somewhat lines up. I do think that some of it will line up for us and that will be good enough.

Those who claim everything good that the Cowboys do is pure "luck" are fooling themselves or have an agenda. You could say that a team is"lucky" that their guy is there when they pick about every pick after the first one. Luck plays a part of every selection. You could also call it fate or circumstance.

The Cowboys are doing a good job acquiring talent. I really wish that all of the so called "fans" who question everything the Cowboys do would go find another team to root for and root against the Cowboys, like the closet haters you are. I'm not talking about fans who can hate one move and like another move by the Cowboys. I am talking about the urine drinking retards that hate everything the Cowboys do. That isn't a fan. That is someone who hates the Cowboys but is too stupid to realize it.

According to Jones, Linehan was "on the table" for the Cowboys to draft Prescott. Linehan had him rated with the top quarterbacks in the draft, Wentz and Goff, and he pushed for the team to rate him higher than it did.
This is in line with Al Michaels' comment that Garrett liked Dak, while Linehan and Wilson loved Dak. Jerry has also said that Linehan would have started Kellen Moore ahead of Weeden or Cassel.

In hindsight, I would agree with Linehan on that. I'm happy it didn't happen that way because they might have won a few more games. This apparently awesome draft class might be totally different.

They got lucky. Plain and simple. All his pre-draft stuff made everyone shy away from him. And his workouts were awful. If they were so high on him why did they wait to the 4th? Because they had the same reservations everyone else did. He's been good so far, for a rookie. I truly hope he continues to play this way and the yips don't show up. Because if so, Dallas will be in a good spot to shore up the Defense financially.
Agreed.

If Garrett was so impressed, they would not have had a fourth round grade on him.

At the end of the day, being wrong on him is getting to be a long list.

Myself included. I figured Tebow.

So you think another RB is the key to us winning a Super Bowl? Defense is what we need to focus on, TBDPA. The best defensive player available.

Because DAK is more composed than our management team

Why didn't more teams want Russel Wilson or Tom Brady? Prescott was an SEC QB and didn't run a pro offense. I didn't want him, either. Glad we finally got some luck with a pick in rounds 4-7. We've sucked there for years.

This article made me respect Bleacher report much more than I used to. This is what I call true reporting.

No, we are talking about a process that all teams go through every year. How can you knock the Cowboys when in this case they were better than 31 other teams?

Does it mean that they don't learn from it, no, but it does not mean that their scouts and process stink!

I'm not knocking the Cowboys
I'm saying it is ok to admit we were lucky and the pick had little to with any great belief on the part of our FO that Dak was going to be a great QB

yeah i think the "skill" is believing Dak could be a NFL QB
the luck is that he did it WAY faster than anyone would imagine
