Twitter: Garrett: McFadden named starter against Seattle

It seems that they don't trust him. They've kept him out of pass blocking situations up to this point other than a chip block on the DE that Tyron was blocking.

They have kept him out of running situations as well.
It's not a fair assessment to say say his chip blocking play shows they don't trust him to pass block. Teams don't know how many defenders are coming when the call a passing play. The RB that only chip blocks on one play would be expected to pick up a blitzing LBer on another play.

Michael isn't that good. There's a reason Seattle dumped him for nothing basically. He has shown nothing in Dallas. They gave him five carries and he didn't do anything with them to warrant more of a work load. McFadden just proved on Sunday that should continue to get more carries.
Stop with the McFadden agenda. It wasn't long ago that McFadden was looking awful in his carries as a cowboy. And the sample size was more than just 5 carries.
Also the same argument could be made that the Raiders showed McFadden the door for Trent Richardson and it's not a huge reach to wonder if not for the Cowboys McFadden may be out of football this year.

I don't play favorites. Everyone on the Cowboys are my favorite players. Your agenda is tired. What's the point in fanboyism over your football team. It's weird.

What?? micheal isn't that good? what tape you be watching Michael is good and everybody wasn't all up on the Darren mccfadden bandwagon before...

Michael is that good and his carry count will continue to increase. Some of us fail to understand that CMike has only been in our system for 4 weeks while DMC has had a full offseason to grasp the intricacies. I think CMike is progressing according to plan and before long this "he's no good" crap will naturally cease to exist.

It's an easy call to make since he's injured and not practicing. I don't think McFadden has locked the starting position down for the year, yet. We'll see after Seattle.

Seattle will be one helluva barometer in finding out.

I think the plan will be to give McFadden the bulk and to give the rest to CMike when he gets the system down. I never saw McFadden or CMike dance in the backfield.

I think last Sunday is what the the Cowboys brass was envisioning when they let Murray go. The O-line opening up holes and a running back that aggressively hit the holes. McFadden did not break many tackles like Randle potentially could, but he hit the holes full throttle as soon as they opened and that earned him the job.

Please share with the coaches whatever tape you watched to make you think that. I'm guessing they didn't see it.

Garrett saying he's been waiting for someone to grab the lead role confirms what some of us have been saying about this running game all along.

Hope McFadden doesn't spit the bit, but I won't be surprised if he does based on his history. If he hits it up in there like he was against the Giants, he'll be fine. If he goes back to hesitating, he'll struggle. I don't mind if he misses a giant gain for a little one if he's running with power and conviction, but we can't succeed if the backs are hesitant to take what's there.

He looked like a different back on a couple runs last week. I still thought Randle ran better, before he was hurt, but McFadden played really hard. I have no problem naming him the starter this week as a result. He gest to the edge so fast. Now that our interior OLs are healthy and moving well, I hope we see more of that early in games. It's something DMC does that's unique from the other backs on the roster. If we get the outside runs working, Dez back in the lineup to loosen things up, we should at least be able to run the ball well enough to avoid some passing game risks. From there we can just rely on the defense to not give up a lot of points.

That assumes, of course, we're not giving up possessions and points on special teams like we did last week.

A RBBC is best when you let one guy take the bulk of the carries in any one game.

Switching series back and forth seems worthless. Run one guy and let him get his rhythm. Even McFadden had 6-10 carries that gained very little but then was able to hit a 24 yarder and a few 10 yarders.

The RBBC just means you have 3 equal options instead of one expensive horse and 2 plow horses.

So Coach Jones told his puppet head coach Garrett who's starting this week,, the more things change, the more things stay the same in Cowboy land...

Are you upset that the back who obviously had chemistry with the o-line and had the first 100 yard game of the season since Murray is getting the chance to duplicate that?

I am just really a little bit surprised that the gave Randle this much rope. I guess they wanted to give him enough of an opportunity to evaluate him before pulling the plug on him. I do not really expect us to keep Randle around once his contract is up, or maybe sooner. For a guy that seemed to have some good value where we picked him, he certainly has been a disappointment, at least from my point of view.

I have been wanting to see McFadden get the the opportunity that Randle has been given up to this point to see if McFadden still had the talent and skill level he had when he came into the league. He showed flashes of it the last game. I think the biggest thing that a running back needs behind this particular offensive line is decisiveness. Murray was able to be productive because he was able to read his blocks pretty well and make swift, decisive decisions about where he was going to run the ball last year. Even when a play breaks down, decisiveness, can get you back to the line of scrimmage, or the extra two yards on a play that keeps the chains moving.

My biggest problem with Randle is that he dances way too much in the backfield and does not evaluate his options fast enough. McFadden wasn't perfect last week, but in my opinion, the reason McFadden had success last week was that he trusted his reads better and moved the chains rather than looking for the home run on every play. He also ran with authority. I hope that he can continue the success he had last week.

I also think that they are continuing to bring C. Michael along as fast as possible. I don't think they traded a draft pick away for him on a whim. They saw something there. We will see if it eventually pays off.

Many of the Randle supporters do not want to see McFadden supplant him as the starter at RB.
