Garrett: More Cole Beasley outside

Interesting ........just me but always thought the further he play from LOS his impact becomes less effective

Speaking Tuesday, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett emphasized that Cole Beasley will play more snaps on the outside this season.

Garrett also claimed it will be a natural transition for the 29-year-old, 5-foot-8 slot man. "I think he’s always been able to handle it," Garrett said. "You’ve seen him have a lot of success at different times as an outside receiver." The fact that this is becoming one of the early tropes of Cowboys camp speaks to just how thin the Cowboys' receiver group is. If this is the solution to that problem, the Cowboys' passing attack is in even more trouble than we thought.

I think Garrett is so clueless that he actually believed this when he said it. Lets put Tavon and Beasley on the outside and have hurns play the slot that will fool the defense LOL.

I don't see him with much success on the outside, though he deserves a chance. But the corners would eat him alive.

Makes you wonder......either way, it's early but seem they're trying to turn Beasley into team's #1 WR. Hell, he even admits they have him all over the place.

Starting to think we could see another vet added to this unit before the Panthers game......

Pressing Beasley against the sideline is basically giving the defense bracket coverage on him for free. Not helpful. If he can't cut horizontally in both directions, his effectiveness is limited.

I'd rather see them give him more upfield patterns. His height limits him deep, but he's not that slow, and could likely get as good separation cutting upfield as he can cutting horizontally. Just that threat should help him with horizontal separation, and give him a way to beat bracket coverage.

I think Tavon could play wide, as he has the speed to run by you deep. Beasley doesn't.

If he’s outside on the wide side of the field he’s not bracketed by the side line. I’ve been skeptical of Cole out wide but I’m ready to be proven wrong, and it’s looked quite good so far in camp.

I think Tavon could play wide, as he has the speed to run by you deep. Beasley doesn't.

I think they are way too small to play on the outside. If a bigger corner gets hands on them it's over. I mean maybe once in a while motion them out wide to switch things up but on a regular basis no thx.

Having 170 lb wrs on the outside is idiotic. We have to realize not every defense is like rod marinelli and likes to play 8 yards off the LOS so they can have a free release. Bigger corners get hands on them it's over.

Kendall Fuller is regarded as one of the league’s top ten cornerbacks. In case some of you forgot (or didn’t hear)...this is what he said when Adam Schefter asked who was the toughest cover he’s faced so far:

“This will surprise a lot of people, but I think Cole Beasley was tough for me.”​

Maybe I'm missing something but I'm guessing he has little or no chance against 5'10+ DBs in tight coverage. Like I said in another thread, seem like an interception waiting to happen.

I’ve shared the same skepticism. It’s worked super well in camp so far. Let’s see how it turns out.

Putting slot guys out wide is a questionable tactic, but it’s not unheard of. Smaller receivers can have success outside—Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, Wes Welker, Steve Smith, etc.

We are not the patriots. Garrett is not BB. Let's not compare. Steve smith is a hall of famer who was crazy physical and had no problems getting off the line. He might have been short but was way heavier and thicker than beasley or austin.
