Witten did not "hog" the snaps, he got passes thrown to him much of the time because he was open and the other receivers weren't. Never saw anything or heard anybody on the Cowboys say Witten was a selfish player, which someone who hogs the snaps by definition is.

But that's fine, now he's gone, when Dak gets buried under the rush or has to run for his life or throws to a tightly covered receiver & an interception or incompletion is the result, because NOBODY is open, then I guess somebody else will be blamed for "hogging the snaps"...
He got most of the snaps because he was getting in the game more than any other tight end. He definitely hogged it. I don't fault him. Can't knock him for not wanting to leave the game.

It's a matter of degree, with really no defender, in shorts, it's easy to look "polished". Besides, he's not a rookie, pretty sure he's done those routes and practices many times, which means it is a basic route, at least for him it is.

Doesn't impress me that much.

But we'll see in a few months...

You said all TE in camp can do it. You were wrong. You can move the goalpost more all you liike but I am not playing that game.

And it's not a basic route. A basic route is 1 cut not 3. You can do a double move 500 times and it is not "basic." It being easy for him is the entire point of practice.

I am as excited as anyone about the potential of Rico.

Put pump the brakes. He moves well for a big guy but none of his cuts are what you would call sudden. They are very slow and deliberate. His hands are not great....in the drill where a guy is holding the one arm the ball gets into his body pretty much every time. I know he is being messed with, but he has to be stronger with his hands.

His biggest need is playing time...it is a shame that there is no NFL Europe because he would have been a perfect candidate along with guys like Cooper Rush, Darius Jackson, Lance Lenoir and a few others.

Let's be honest. What we saw from him last preseason is why we are excited. Anything he does at practice or training camp is just bonus. People can tell us "he's raw" and "he's done nothing"...but I saw more from him in preseason than I saw from any of these other guys.

What at terrible example lol.....Wilt Chamberlain was 7 foot. Of course he was going to struggle to play low to the ground in football.
My point is...being a great athlete doesn’t make you a football player.

Most of Rico’s highlights in preseason were against 3rd stringers or guys who never made NFL rosters. It’s why when watching a preaseason game, you have to take a lot with a grain of salt.

Look I’m not wishing any ill toward Rico. I just don’t think in the grand scheme of things he has shown much against NFL quality competition. If you look great against a “camp body” Safety from “Eastern State College of Connecticut” it doesn’t necessarily make you a “beast”.

Giving gathers props for a handful of catches last season would have meant much more had he got some regular season playing time.
It remains to be seen if his basketball skill set will translate to the NFL. Haven't seen anything yet.

No one is saying he's a "beast". The guy didn't even play college football so even if he did do it against "camp body's" its still impressive. IMO, he's ahead of the learning curve. I'm not gonna temper my expectation for him. He has potential. Nothing more nothing less and we should want to see more.

So? It's not like he went up against 2nd teamers and failed.

Fact is he dominated in the passing game in the opportunities afforded him. He deserves a step up.

If there aren't better players ahead of him.
