Theres no question for a guy his size hes fluid and can catch the ball from my understanding its the blocking
hes not very good with but I will tell you this if I'm a Coach and we keep 3 TE's than hes number 3 if we keep
4 TE's than hes number 4. He makes my team even if his blocking is not up to snuff because he could be a
dynamic TE Receiver due to his size and frame especially in the redzone.

Just about every tight end in the league looks good running basic pass patterns in camp.

Like anybody I'll give him a chance, but he'll have to perform in pre-season before I'll pay much attention to him...

No, they really don't.

After a certain number of reps you can tell a difference in a player's performance. They begin to look polished. For a receiver, they start taking the same steps with the same rhythm, the same lean and the same distances. Rico is starting to look polished running those routes.

Further those are not "basic" patterns being run. Basic means 1 cut but its obvious that Rico is working on making multiple moves in a route

Nice route running and a great job catching the ball. I like that drill with the towel pulling at his arm.

Esco failed for the same reason that I think Rico will.

This coaching staff does not mold their offense to the the talents of the players. Instead, it forces players into a role and hope they fit...........but they draft guys who don't fit. Esco was set up for failure from day 1.

I think that Escobar was a miss from day one. They failed when they chose him over Travis Kelce in the first place. It was a mistake that was pointed out by many the second it happened - and they were right.

Be careful gushing about preseason performances. His big plays in ps last summer were against a lot of players who are no longer in the NFL. If he’s doing great things in pads against the first team defense in practice, that’s more relevant than in the 4th qtr of a ps game against a 4th string safety from Northeast Oklahoma Baptist who won’t be on a roster in Sept.
That's true,i agree, tc would be fun to watch this year.Very interesting

I mean that's fine. But they picked a guy for a certain skillset....and then never used that skillset. It's the same thing they did with Switzer.

I wouldn't be surprised but then again I wouldn't be surprised if Belicheck doesnt scoop him up and make a star out of him.

We are not the only team there are another 31 teams. And thall thier coaches aren't as anal retentive as big red

Rico isn't even close to being a starting TE for the Cowboys. He's 4th on the depth chart and will be extremely lucky to make the 54 man roster. His best chance is to get hurt in TC and go back on IR for another season. Falling in love with him and tell lies about his "progress" all you want, it doesn't change the reality of his status on this team. He's a glorified bench warmer at best.
but according to some if he is doesn't turn out to be a great TE its Garrett's fault, not gathers....

I agree. If he gets cut or doesn't play, I hope it's for a better reason than lack of blocking. If my memory serves me right, Novacek wasn't the best blocking TE for us either. Besides, can Rico not improve at blocking? He certainly has the size.

If Rico has the upside we think he does at receiving, you let the blocking go and allow him to continue to develop there. I get the scheme we run, I really do, but you can't let go of a TE that has elite receiving talent because of poor blocking (I'm not saying he does have that ceiling, just if that's how we view his potential)

Rico is built even better for basketball, and we see how that turned out.

I know I know blocking. Yet other teams play te's who dont block.

Those other TEs have years of playing TE, and can run routes.

I'd be much happier if he spent all offseason learning how to block. Until he can block, he's a slow, plodding WR who can't run routes and has no experience. And he won't make the field like that.

If he can block, he's approaching OT size, with agility. He'd be a huge asset in red zone and short yardage. And we *need* a blocking TE.

Just learn to block, Rico. That's your golden ticket to a bright future in the NFL.

Rico is a basketball flunky on a football team who'd rather be in the music industry.

Paint me pessimistic.

And we have never been good with two TEs, despite wanting that part of our scheme for years. With Witten gone, it's time we get that going.

First it was Witten and Fasano - we let Fasano go and he went on to have a pretty decent career. Then Martellus Bennett who was supposed to be our red zone guy, we used him there for 1 season. Then the bust in Escobar.

Witten is no longer here to hog the snaps and there's not a WR on the roster that seems to be someone who can block and receive. I think Rico is the only one right now with potential as a big time play maker - so that's why we'll keep him around.

I’ll never understand the fan love around here for a 6th round draft pick who is starting year 3 with this organization having never earned the opportunity to play a down of NFL football. On a team screaming for TE help, our HC has been less than enthusiastic about him. I just don’t understand the Rico love.

what's next a midget running back? Or a LB with no arms? WR with one eye....... P. T. Barnum would be proud.

I think we should ask Adrian Hamilton and Woody Dantzler.

Using that logic, when I stubbed my toe on the way to the bathroom last night I should have blamed Garrett. :muttley:
it was is fault. because your contractor was friends with a neighbor, whose son went to the same school as the janitor who lived next to the car sales person that sold a car to garrett's neighbor...you see the connection....It was garrett's fault.
