There is really no way to know Escobar's upside.
Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't this the pick where Jason looked like he wanted to hang himself when the pick was made? I have slept since then so I could be wrong.
Everybody new he could not block, coming out. If we picked him and have the idea that he is going to be an inline blocker for us, that's on us.
I think we thought he could at least get in the way and not be a full blown liability out there. Not the case, obviously.
He does not need to be a crunching blocker. Novacek himself was a simple positional stumbling block half the time.
Right on!They knew coming in that he couldn't block much they said as much in the draft press conference. The idea was that with his long arms and tall frame he could put on enough strength to become a very good blocker eventually. They knew he was a bit of a project.
The biggest key for him is what does he do after this off season with an NFL strength and conditioning program. Once he gets to training camp next year I think we will have a better idea as to how his career is going to go. Still too early for me at this point.
Callahan didn't like Warford for his zone blocking schemeWhat was Jerry smoking? Any fan with half a brain would have taken Larry Warford or Jonathan Hankins. Either one of those guys could have helped the depleted Oline or Dline right now.
Callahan didn't like Warford for his zone blocking scheme
Funny thing was Broaddus loved Warford and thought he could sneak into the 1st round. I guess Broaddus got one right and the scouting department whiffed big time.
No way we were going to go OL in back to back picks. Got nothing to do with whiffing.
No, we really should have known this if we scouted him at all. He has never shown the ability to block and it's really more of a want to thing then anything. Escobar does not want to block. He's another Bennett in this regard, except Bennett could block, he just didn't want to, here in Dallas. Escobar has never ever shown any desire to do that IMO.
IDK.
We drafted Escobar in an attempt to improve the 2 TE set. But I also think we did it with the idea that he would be Witten's replacement by 2015.
-What's the deal with him?
-I'm not trying to hate on the guy, but he's been so bad at blocking that we can't even keep him on the field. I know he's young, but when you use a 2nd rounder on someone, you expect him to play, don't you?
-I'm starting to think we could've used that that pick on a position of need like DT or DE.. or even O-Line. Anything really. Especially with Hanna playing a bigger role this season.
-I'm not giving up on him cause he's young and he may very well develop into a nice player, but I really hate watching high draft picks sit on the sidelines. Just my personal opinion.
You better hope he's ready before then.
Gavin who???
Oh, yea..............now I remember.............that TE we took in the 2nd round so we could run the Patriot 12 offense.................then Opie discovered we suck at the 12 offense................so our 2nd round pick watches the game from the bench.......LOL
You seriously cant make this stuff up if you tried.
Perhaps. Not ready to go all the way out on that limb and say that Witten won't be here next year, but with the cap being what it is, you never know.
Another 2nd round TE who can't play ?
