As to the question of Smith's status as a top qb prospect ..... go punch in his name in Google News. His draft status, at least for the moment, is soaring after his Pro Day workout and the talk in the past couple of days is that he's likely in the top 10. The Eagles just worked him out. They have pick #4.

The only way I would draft Smith would be if he fell to 18 & that just isn't very likely. If the Cowboys fail in 2013, then the 2014 draft would be the one to trade pull a Commanders and throw a team a couple of 1's & then go after a Bridgewater if he declares & the other top college QB coming out. I hope that won't be the case though & these Dallas Cowboys can get it together.

Yes, I'll draft him. If he's there in the second round. Maybe. No, I'm not even sure about that.

If he is there at #18, then I would LOVE to see if any team would be willing to trade up to get him....most of the teams needing a QB draft in the top 10 and assuming they don't take him in round #1, would you be willing to take another team's #2 this year and their #1 next year?

especially if a team like KC would do it as they are likely not going to be in the playoffs next year and their #1 could be a top 10 pick. I would strongly consisder something like that.

that all being said, I expect him to be picked in the top 10 this year...I can't see him making it past arizona or buffalo

No one on this board wants a young (accurate) QB worse than I do. That said, next year is the target.

where would he rank in last years QB class?

6th?

8th?

That is where you blew it. Just because he might be the best qb available to draft this year MEANS NOTHING.

And this kind of development, when a QB's stock starts soaring, causes teams to reach for a QB prospect in the draft, especially in a weak QB class, like this year. Think of how Minnesota and Jacksonville reached for Ponder and Gabbert.

I think KC is fine at QB. Jacksonville, Arizona, Buffalo or the Jets might trade back into the 1st to get him.

I think he's going to be gone by #8 or #9. Earlier I had thought that he might not even go in the first, but with the releases of Fitzgerald and Kolb, I think he's on the menu.

Mayock, Kiperr, etc rank him 3rd or 4th.(for what that's worth).
In any case, it's beyond outrageous to suggest we take him in the 1st round

6th or 8th? Are you kidding me? He would have been 3rd. Same general skill set as Tannehill, but with a lot more experience. Obviously in hindsight Wilson would be ahead of him, but no one else is even debatable.

What is there to not like about Smith as a prospect? He's got more than enough size, a good strong arm, and good speed. Obviously he needs to be coached up and won't fit in every system, but he definitely has a very high ceiling. I'm actually really hoping the Eagles pass on him at 4 because I think he would be very scary in Chip Kelly's system.

I'm not saying Smith is not a viable qb prospect, but the one question I have of Smith, is his leadership. I didn't like the way his team imploded last year. I don't closely follow WV, so I don't know if injuries played a part in their collaspe, but you usually don't see a potential franchise qb's team regress as bad as WV's team did last year.

The team just wasn't ready for the transition to the Big 12, just not enough talent on the o line or defense. They got flat out beat up. Defense let up almost 39 points per game. They had an easy non conference schedule in the beginning of the year, but once they got into the heart of the Big 12 schedule they had no chance.

for you maybe its a fact. It is in effect an opinion which you will find is not a common one

Kapernick and Wilson both looked better then he did in college.

Kapernick wasn't a rookie last year....and Wilson was the 75th pick for a reason. There were huge concerns whether he would be able to succeed because of his size. Of course hindsight is always 20/20 and you'd take Wilson in a heartbeat now, but Wilson wouldn't have been ranked anywhere near Geno prior to the draft.

Didn't Geno run the pop gun spread offense that Timmy Chang, Kase Keenum, Kevin Kolb, Kliff Kingsburry, Sonny Cumbie and Brandon Weeden ran? Tannehill was in a pro style offense and it helped him transition nicely to the pros, all those other guys....not so much. Nothing against Geno, but he played in a piss poor defensive conference and look how he did. It only get tougher in the NFL.

missed on Kapernick. But Wilson? A lot of the better scouts pointed out the fact that he is about the same size as Brees. So that size question really only mattered to casual types and those so concerned about measurements.

Game film would put geno way down the list last year.
