With Geno Smith apparently streaking back up the draft board after his workout, the question arises again - should the Cowboys consider Geno Smith. It would be a major turnaround since they did not attend his pro day. But should they?

1) You might be able to work out a deal with the Chiefs for the top pick, if necessary. You can never be sure that opportunity will present itself again to get a top qb prospect.

2) at a minimum, working him out would put pressure on Romo to come to the table, if that is the problem.

First of all if you can "work a deal with the Chiefs for the top pick" from our 18th spot this year I am fairly sure you can do it any other year meaning the opportunity will more than likely re-present itself.

Second, as so elequently posted above me without words... I'm not sure I would call him a top prospect, especially one someone would need to trade up to the top spot for.

I actually like Geno.....but c'mon man. Not even remotely possible. I'm not trading this whole draft + next years 1st for any 1 guy. Let's work on improving the line or it won't matter who the QB is.

How much game footage have you seen of Geno Smith?

late first to top pick because of his workout against air?

There is not one QB worth a first round pick this year.

And you think HE is worth the FIRST?

What are you smoking?

I actually like Geno Smith as a prospect more than most people, but NO WAY will he be a Cowboy. I think he COULD be good if he's developed, but he'll likely be thrown into the fire his rookie season and he'll struggle. I don't see him getting past Buffalo at #8.

I also read the Eagles are high on him after they worked him out. That'd be a surprise pick at 4.

I think this quarterback crop will give Dallas a chance to pick from the top tier in the second round, if it wants to. There will be one or two that rise, but several should be available when Dallas picks in the second.

I'm not saying I want Dallas to pick one then, just that it might be a good time to do it based on value. (I hope if the Cowboys decide to do it, they do it with a pick they acquire because we've got actual holes to fill with those early picks.)

I wish the Giants, Eagles AND Washington would somehow draft him. Brady Quin minus the talent.

I'd consider Geno at 18, but I'm certainly not trading up for him.

are you serious

You wonder sometimes.
The very lowest priority on the team and the very weakest position in the draft, and someone asks this.
And then there's that small detail of no chance smith willbe there at 18 anyway.

Worst question in the entire offseason so far

Wow...........put the blunt down dude, anybody that wants to trade up to the top pick to take Geno must be stoned out of their mind!

If Romo is not going to extend (which is speculation at this point), you would need to draft a new quarterback this year or next.

If you wish to get a top-of-the-draft qb, you'd also need a willing trade partner, which you might have in KC. Next year, you could end up with two quarterback-hungry teams at the top of the draft. Bye bye Manziel or Bridgewater or whomever. Right now you have a team that might be willing to deal.

If you wish to trade to the top of the draft, your best option might be a Romo trade for additional picks to use to trade up. You would have to do that trade this year. That said, this is less of a factor, b/c you can trade for 2014 picks and use them next year.

I'm not sure that I would do it, either. But if you don't do it, you're rolling the dice on the ability to trade up to get Bridgewater or Manziel next year, or to find a qb later in the draft.

All of this is based on the premise that Romo doesn't extend and tests the market, which is only speculation at this point in time.
