I'm no Dak fan but I think Dak > Gino right now even as a rookie.
The other thing is, our staff has proven that it cannot win without romo period. Even with superior talent and a decent backup QB, they can't do it. So for all the hubbub about backup QB, it's really just a typical knee jerk reaction about nothing. Romo goes down, we're done plain and simple.

I believe that's why the ball gets snapped at almost 0:00 everytime. Romo is doing a lot of presnap adjustment (kill kill kill) and needs all the time he can get to make up for a bland scheme.

Because the young guys don't have the talent to ball at this stage of their career and chances are, they may never have it. It is the same situation on the defensive line. There is a reason that these guys were last round draft picks or not drafted at all. Romo is a one in a million success story, so don't defend them because of his success. If they have the talent and are ready to play, they will be played. It is doubtful that some of these guys are in the league in a year or two.

This is all merely speculation. We don't know how Prescott and Showers will turn out until we see them on the field. Romo isn't the only undrafted qb to ever find success in the NFL it happens. And Prescott was a 4th rounder at that

what do you realistically expect from Showers and Prescott in this preseason?

I expect more from Showers than Prescott simply because he is a rookie. I want to see improvement in Showers from last year's preseason

For me it's because I have low expectations for Showers and think Dak is a year away from having any expectations at all. If we need to play somebody for a few games, I want someone who we know can read an in-season NFL defense. I don't want a possible Romo playoff run derailed because we took a chance on a player who wasn't ready.

Btw, that's not Geno Smith. That dude sucks.

Yes geno sucks. Lets at least see showers in the 1st preseason game to see how he looks against a real defense

The Cowboys are in a true no win situation.

They get critized for not drafting a QB and playing them when Romo goes down or they get critized for having a couple of young guys in Dak and Showers but we can't put them in. Either way it's open season on the Cowboys.
Dak was not the quality QB that they needed. There are plenty of QBs available with his skills. My criticism comes from not drafting a top prospect. One way or the other, they should have known that backup QB was going to be an issue, but they didn't make the move to draft a good one.

There is not much difference at all between a 4th round QB and an UDFA talent wise. It will be a miracle for either one to play at a decent level. It is merely speculation to expect them to be better than their draft positions.

I suppose we'll just have to wait and see

who knows maybe Dak or Showers show some promise in the preseason and a vet qb isn't needed...but if i was to bet...i would bet that both of them are going to look like what they really are inexperienced and very raw with alot of work needed. just for the record Geno isn't my first choice but i wouldn't rule him out either.

you may be right, which would also support blaming the coaching staff for their complete inability to win a game without Romo, their gameplan and in-game adjustments are lame and neither attempt to exploit matchup advantages/disadvantages nor expose opponents' tendencies,....or at least it seems that way.
Even Peyton as a Colt couldn't win a SB with all those responsibilities.....well until they went and got a running game so he could just hand the ball off 2x as many times and had the luxury of playing one of the worst teams to make the SB with possibly the worst all time starting QB to make a SB. And Romo is no Peyton.

Well....I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that i think Geno will be cut by the end of training camp, the Jets Have Fitz, Petty, Hackenberg, and Smith. I see Smith as the odd man out. Should that happen...what do you guys think of him as a vet QB?

Better than what's behind Tony ri b t now

Why are so many people against letting the young guys ball? Everyone wants to bring in a "name vet" even when that vet is trash.

After watching tonights scrimmage...no matter what Jerry says....we need a QB.

You must have watched something different than every one else. Showers did quite well. I'm ready to see him in preseason

McGee Cassell and Weeden were terrible but Orton and Kitna were fine. It's not like the front office has brought in superior talent and they failed with it. The backups that we had in at the skill positions last year weren't doing them a lot of favors winning routes and getting separation even if they were afraid to throw in the middle of the field if it wasn't the first read.
