Genuine outrage

Doesn't need to be a probowl center, someone who can do something as simple as snap the ball would be an upgrade

The negative reports in training camp regarding the snap have been on the backup Center, not the starter.

The fact that i am even going to say this next line is not exactly a shining endorsment of our current OL situation considering what i think of Cotsa

What happens if like every other OL we have Costa gets hurt and we have to rely on any of these backups?

Our current C situation is Costa (not exatcly comforting in it self) and a bunch of guys who can't even snap the ball and this on a team that supposedly has SB aspirations

Bernnadeau can play center also snap the ball, he's practicing now, if he can last untill Nagy and Killa come back, they can also perform those duties.

Don't believe everything you breathe, there are 4 guys besides Arkin that can hike the ball currently on this squad.

Why do you need reports? Didn't you see it with your own eyes last year? So what exactly is it that you're relying on when defending this guy?

Because these oft-mentioned reports don't actually exist, yet they keep getting referenced from thread to thread.

No, just yesterday it was tweeted that Romo was yelling at Costa to snap the ball because Costa didn't snap it when he should. Go back and check the tweets over the last few days. It won't change your homer outlook, but it would keep you from posting this mess.

You mean this:

Romo is a showman. In an offensive 11-on-air drill, the quarterback worked through some shifts, changed a play at the line to flop his tight ends, then got a loud laugh from the fans along the fence by ending his call with, "snap the damn ball, Costa!"

DFW Media tweets are to be taken with a grain of salt.

We all saw his body of work last year.

Completely outclassed. If this is the best we have, we are in a lot of trouble. But hey, he tries hard, right? Tell that to Romo when they are scraping him off the turf with a shovel.

You keep posting that video but that Eagles sack has nothing to do with Costa. If anything it shows why the Cowboys released Kosier. I know fans want to point fingers at some of the obvious thing that he didn't do well but I could make a similar video of both Smith and Free that would giveway to the same opinions you have about Costa.

Garret elevated Murray when he elevated Murray. In other words, he signed off on drafting the guy, developed him despite his injury and the shortened camp, and then elevated him to starter when Murray demonstrated that he deserved the job. That's incontrovertible. You can try to make the case that the opposite happened, but it's silly and not worth debating.

Not sure if this was meant to be a joke or is just an example of how thoroughly you're agenda is affecting your ability to reason, but, either way, it borders on 'sad.' Costa was not demoted to third string.

Just because I think your take on this issue is really, really bad, it doesn't make Costa 'my boy.' Especially when I'm on record to the contrary in this same thread. I'm not sure what point this quote was supposed to make, though, other than to confirm what everybody already knows: that we signed Bernardeau to play OG and to compete and backup at OC. That's just smart.

What would not be smart would be to sign a player who's a street free agent, who was not deemed worthy of trying to retain in the offseason, whom no other team in the league was willing to sign on to their expanded 90-man roster, who missed all of OTAs, the beginning of training came, and all of the instruction to-date from our new OL coach, and to elevate him ahead of all of the players we kept in his place in order to make him a starter to fill the hole you created in the middle of training camp by replacing our other starter with another career backup who would also be playing out of position.

Elevated him? LOL

Wow, like that is some kind of genius event for Garrett. Murray is CLEARLY head and shoulders above Felix or the happless Tashard Choice. And if Garrett was soo gung ho about signing off on him, then he should have definitely known this.

His "elevation" came in game #5 after the first RB went down, and after he started the 2nd stringer instead. His "elevation" didnt come until he basically had no other choice and the guy ran for 253 yards. LOL

Had Felix NEVER gotten hurt, its quite possible that his "elevation" might not have come for another 5 games if at all last season.

So his "elevation" was clearly more by chance and by no other choice.

But hey, I guess your giving him credit for starting him after 253 yards and having only tashard choice as the other option. True genius my friend. True genius indeed. :laugh2:

I have zero confidence in Costa. I would take just about anyone over him. Do you think if Costa was cut that any team would sign him? That is very debatable. I would put Beardeau at center and sign Holland to play guard. Now you would be correct in that no one signed him and for that I have no explanation. From what I have seen from Holland when he has been signed and had to play guard he did a VERY good job. And in most cases the running game hit stride during that time. I would certainly take Holland over the two veterans they just signed. Either way I think we are stuck with Costa. All that we can hope is that he improves. It would be unfortunate to see our short yardage and pass protection hopes destroyed again because he is getting consistently blown up into the backfield play after play.

It just means that they don't have a backup Center. Nagy and Kowalski are out. Arkin and Gunn don't have experience at Center.

Wishful thinking on my part I think.

He isnt second guessing anybody. The coaches are the ones desperately shuffling centers, demoting Costa to 3rd string and saying they are looking for help at center.

But you cling to "he's doing the best he can" to justify your belief that the coaches love him.

Do yourself a favor and know what you're talking about before you type. Costa wasn't demoted to 3rd string. He was taking the third string snaps (as well as 1st team snaps) because Arkin, who was TRYING to take the 3rd team snaps, couldnt' get the ball to the QB. I often wonder if you and Risen Star are the same person or just share a portion of the same small brain. Every time I read one of your posts (or his) I probably lose a few I.Q. points. You never do anything but *****. I really believe you're a damn Eagle fan.

You're wasting your time. They've already made up their mind that Costa craps his pants and falls down on every snap.

You need to communicate in mediums they understand ..

Yes, elevated. It's like you don't really understand what that word means. But no matter how you choose to characterize it, Garrett's team drafted, developed, and then started Murray despite the lack of a training camp and the early injury. And despite the fact that there was a full backfield in front of him. These are facts, and not a subject for a rational debate.

You may choose to believe they should have started him sooner, but that's not relevant to the discussion at hand.

I do think it's almost certain another team would sign out starting Center if we were to cut him, and, no, I don't think it's very debatable.

And I really do understand that you'd put the career backup that has never played OC at Center and start the street free agent career backup at OG. I just think, barring a significant injury, that's crazy. For the record, the team recently considered adding Holland a third time and decided against it.

Finally, our short yardage problems go back a lot farther than last year, though, and we didn't have our pass protection hopes destroyed last year, so it's not possible for it to happen 'again'. I get that you're looking for a scapegoat, and that you're not particularly interested in the details of the OL problems we've had last year, but let's not pretend that the issues were around a single player. The OL troubles have gone back to 2008 in one way, shape, or form, and they've included problems at OT, OG, and OC during that time.

lolz-it's hard to rationalize grown people would act this way simply because the longer you are on this planet the more you learn about patience.

If one could really see into the future it wouldn't be life, not on this earth.

In the end guys will return healthy and Bern is our Backup CEnter if something were to happen to COsta.

Livings and Bern adorne each side of COsta with bookend OTs beside them. Center should be fine hopefully the injuries are past the Oline for Dallas for awhile. If not the backup could be better than the starter. Leary can fill for Bern.

To say that this combination is certainly doomed for failure is a complete joke and utter insanity.

Sometime you grow out of that .... a little.

:D

All of Football Outsiders offensive line metrics show Dallas' OL to be average to slightly above average last year.

http://footballoutsiders.com/stats/ol

Adjusted Sack Rate ( sacks (plus intentional grounding penalties) per pass attempt adjusted for down, distance, and opponent) - 13th

Adjusted Line Yards in the middle of the line - 9th in the NFL

Ive watched and rewatched all the games in their totality, even in all 22 coaches film. I've evaluated the metrics. The only place I see any evidence where Dallas was "OMGZ TEH WORZT OFFENSIVEZ LINEZ EVAH!!!" was in teh intrawebbings messageboards by fans who probably are basing their evaluations of faint recollections from 8 months ago.. This was with a one legged Kosier, with a badly regressing Doug Free on the left side, with a rookie starting right tackle, with a first year starter center, with starting the season with an undrafted free agent rookie left guard, with a plague of injuries. The offensive line simply wasn't a crippling issue last year. Pass defense was by far the biggest weakness for the Cowboys last year, and frankly a lack of offensive firepower in the offense with Miles and Dez crippled by hamstrings and feature RBs dropping like, combined with horrendous kick returning, which required 13 play drives to put points on the board. With the additions of Livings, who was an above average starting guard last year, combined with Bernadeau .. who I have confidence will be at least be slightly better than a one legged Kosier and/or first year Bill Nagy, combined with Costa continuing down the career arc he was traveling towards in the 2nd half of last season, there is no reason to believe that the Cowboys won't improve, likely significantly, over last year.

If you want to wring your hands about something, think about Miles Austin's lingering hamstring problems and the likelihood that we're going to see a 3 WR set with Kevin Ogletree, Dewayne Harris and Dez Bryant facing bracket coverage on every snap. 5 First Rounders up and down the OL isn't going to protect Romo when he has to wait 8 seconds for the WRs to get seperation, and every drive requires a minimum of 10-12 snaps to put together a scoring drive.

The whole interior was awful along with Douf Free at LT. So basically the line was pretty awful minus one guy who was a rookie. SaYS a lot.

That's an excellent question and I'm sure the coaches would love to know the answer to it.
