here was Bob Sturm's take "Bummed But the Smart Move"
On Murray's deal
Bob Sturm: It bums me out greatly. I think DeMarco's a huge part of this team. I think he's an exceptional running back. I don't think you just unwrap another one and put him out there in that spot. I think he did a lot of things very, very well and at a very high level. It wasn't just 2014. But that was the year he put it all together. At the same time, you wish you could get some clarity from Stephen, maybe not even on the record, but just their philosophy over the last year. Because we started talking in October ... Holy Cow! They're not worried about his carries at all. They're running him into the ground. They have no intention of keeping him. And then you'd hear the offer was four for 16, which as we've seen in this last week, four for 16 is nothing in this league - Bruce Carter laughs at that contract. So when you see the numbers that the Eagles put on top of him, it certainly baffles you as to what the Eagles are doing. I like DeMarco. I don't think I like him more than LeSean McCoy; I think they're very comparable. So to go through all the trouble to move McCoy and to create space, and then plug up all that space with DeMarco ... that's weird.
It's bothersome because I wanted to keep him. If he was married to $8 million a year and not the six that I kind of thought would get it done this whole time. It's freaking crazy to me that you can't get that offer, and then you call Chip and suddenly that offer appears. I don't get that. I feel like we're missing a few details along the way. From a Cowboys standpoint, if they would have given DeMarco $40 million, I think most of us would have just freaked out and said that's just insane. Unless you're dealing with Adrian Peterson in his prime. It sucks. However, as we've said for a couple months now, this is the best offseason ever to need a running back in the draft. There's, I think, eight of them that they could take in the first or second round and be OK at running back. Now, you take that net savings and try to fix the rest of their team. I don't like this, but I think it's a smart move. I hate that you have to use a first or a second on a running back, now. Cause I wanted to use that on defense. Given today's two choices, I'm not sure either one of them was going to make everyone happy. With Romo's small window, the idea that Dez, DeMarco and Romo could have played together for two or three more years to see how far this thing could go ... the fact that that won't happen, it bums me out and I think it bums a lot of people out. It doesn't seem right that their last game together was that game at Lambeau.
