Gerald Sensabaugh Jax fan comments

This guy ran a 4.44 and had a 3.98 short shuttle when he came out in 2005. He's athletic. Now, he is 6-0 1/2, 204 pounds. He came out at 214 pounds. Jacksonville drafted him in the 5th round. He was projected to go in the 4-5 range.

Now, he's a guy at that 6-0, 200 pound range who has the speed I like. It is in the mid-low 4.4s. That kind of makes up for him not being bigger or a little taller.

That speed and quickness compensates for his size, imo. If you are going to be a liittle smaller, you need to play fast and quick. If a guy is going to play around 200 pounds and not be very tall, he needs to be ablle to run and be quick. He needs to be athletic.

It sounds like Dallas is getting this guy at the right time, too.

He's only 25 too. Not to mention Jax's defense was abysmal last year. I want to see what he can do with a team that can actually get pressure.

Sad to say, but you stole it from someone who posts here and had already posted it here... ;)

*MERGE*

lol what a noob.

The good news is, even if he does have some character flaws, we have Witten who can likely help keep his head straight. Witten is from Elizabethon, which is just a few minutes from Kingsport, TN where Sensabaugh went to HS.

If I had to guess, I would even say that Witten and Sensabaugh already knew each other from their HS days.

Here's hoping he tears up it next season.

But we've been down this road before with the 1 year contract at the safety spot.

Ended up costing us big with Hamlin and he certainly didn't earn the contact he got last offseason.

Let's hope this one works out better.

I like to hear good things about a Player when he leaves their current team.

Thats assuming all teams bad mout their players out the door once they leave like Cowboys fans do.

it's a strange feeling, isn't it? like you're doing the mythical "fantalk" that isn't a debate before it starts.

so far i'm down with what jones has done this offseason. we'll see what else he does.

you guys should go to nfl.com and watch the week 12 highlights of the jags-vikings game. 3 things stuck out about Sensabaugh to me.

#1 he intercepted a pass(yeah!)

#2 he was covering the wr on the goaline when taylor ran in a td. that shows the coaches have some trust in his coverage abilities and that he's physical.

#3 an absolutely devasting hit on special teams when the jags were returning a punt.

He's a beast. I live in Savannah, Georgia where they only show J-ville games and Falcons games every week. I have watched the guy alot and we are getting a guy who lays the wood, can cover, outstanding special team player and at 25 is coming into his own. I really think this guy will be the best safety on this team when its all said and done.

Wow..high praise much?

Just what were the terms of his contract. I like the sound of this signing and I'm usually an optimist. But it kinda sounds too good to be true.

You get a 25 yr old guy with what appears to be starters ability and a lot of upside for a 1 year deal.

Did this guy have any other offers?

Could there be more baggage with this guy than we've been told?

He turned down a 3 year deal with the saints.

He wants to be on a legit defense that actually gets pressure on the QB..I'm excited about this guy more and more every day.

The guy didn't get as many offers as he probably first expected because teams are wary of anyone with any brushes with the law..no matter how minor.
He chose the Cowboys over the Saints and probably other one year deals because everyone knows a successful season with the highest profile team in football guarantees a very big payday next season.

How do you know this? I'd love some proof to rub it in my friends face, he's a huge Saints fan and enjoys taking digs at the Cowboys whenever he can.

Here's one I googled and its not where I originally read.
Dallas Cowboys sign safety Gerald Sensabaugh

Categories: Saints
The Saints' options at free safety continue to dwindle as one-time target Gerald Sensabaugh agreed to a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday.
The Saints showed early interest in Sensabaugh, who played for new Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams last year in Jacksonville. But they only wanted him if he came at the right price, and Dallas apparently came through with a better offer.

Sensabaugh's agent, Kevin Conner, said Saints front office executives Mickey Loomis and Khai Harley were "consummate professionals" throughout the negotiating process and that Williams was a "strong advocate for Gerald."
But, Conner said, "After weighing each option, we felt like the terms and length of this deal were more favorable for Gerald at this point in his career."
The Saints were looking for a three-year deal, but Sensabaugh, 25, preferred the one-year deal, which gives him a chance to improve his stock and enter the market again next year.
Williams was indeed high on Sensabaugh, but it's possible that the Saints didn't consider him the ideal fit for their needs. They are in the market for a ball-hawk on the back end. While Sensabaugh played free safety last year, he was considered a strong safety when he entered the league from North Carolina.
He has also had some off-the-field issues related to traffic and weapons violations, including a traffic arrest earlier this offseason, which certainly could have hurt his value in the open market.
Veteran safety Darren Sharper remains an option for the Saints. He's the only other safety known to have visited the club during free agency.

USA Today
STRATEGY AND PERSONNEL
After bringing in free safeties Gerald Sensabaugh and Darren Sharper on the first weekend of free agency, the Saints finally got their man to fill a most important spot in the back end of their defense.
The Saints got Sharper, a four-time Pro Bowl pick, to agree to a contract on Wednesday after losing out on Sensabaugh to the Dallas Cowboys. The Saints offered Sensabaugh a three-year deal before he took a one-year contract from the Cowboys.
But it worked out in the end for the Saints. Sharper, who leads all active players with 54 interceptions, will give them the playmaking ability they've needed at that spot. He'll likely be penciled in as the starter although he will have to compete with incumbent starter Kevin Kaesviharn for the job.

Nah, just telling you what I saw in the guy. He's a guy who is always around the ball. The last 7-8 games of the season he was one of the best guys on their defense

Maybe he just wanted his chance to showcase himself on the Big Stage that is the Dallas Cowboys.

Sorry for triple post, but it was actually 46", not 40", and 46" is tied for the 2nd highest in recorded pro sports, behind Michael Jordan

==============================================

That's interesting. Amazing vertical.

That poster on the Jax sight was just making that stuff up. That is not even close to being true. Jordan was amazing, but there were several NBA players with higher verticals. For sure Dave Bing had a 52". What about the 5'7 guy who could dunk 3 balls? I forget his name, but he was around 48 or so. Darrel Griffith had 48+. David Thompson has at least a 48. I always heard MJ had a 45...similar but maybe an inch lower than Dominick Wilkins. I know it's splitting hairs, but irritates me when people just throw out bs like that. Jordan has amazing hops to go with his skills but I would guess he is not even top 8 all time in the NBA---and that excludes other sports.

Bottom line is that our new guy has so explosive skills.
