Picking that late isn't requiring a contract big enough to sway you from taking a player if you need him. Wilson or not, they were going to give Rolle millions more then they would have to give a rookie.

How so? They play the same position and I don't believe either of them could, or would, be a good Strong Safety.

So to give this guy a 5 year deal and that kind of cash the GMen have to pretty sure they're not going to get Phillips back or, at the very least, they don't believe he'll ever be the same and will only be a back up player at this point.

Phillips has a chronic arthritic knee - dude is done. He's tried all kinds of new medical tech to fix it but it hasn't worked out. I was a big fan of getting Rolle here but for $8 mil thats a no, and an even bigger no because his stats are not that impressive and he was in a weaker division.

That's what I've heard as well.

Today on NFL network, someone said they were trying to get blood around his knee and they couldn't (think they were talking about microfracture surgery). They went on to say it's a bone on bone condition, will not get better and that his career is in jeopardy.

Rolle was a second alternate who got in only because the Pro Bowl was played before the Super Bowl and Darren Sharper couldn't play in it. And he's already 28 years old.

You would think that the Giants would have learned that from last season but I guess not. What this tells me is that the Giants got desperate and are not relying on the draft.

We have to credit Jerry and Wade because we have been excellent in FA and not breaking the bank for one player. Someone said earlier that with big $$ comes big egos and I am really buying into that. Are signings from last year were cost effective and they ALL worked out.

Rolle doesn't turn 28 until December 16th....that's young to me.
