I do get that, but the knock on him has been his health..when healthy he is a top RB who hasn't been able to stay healthy. Give him 2 years in a row of production and health, I cannot see his value dropping of all things. This is idocy at it's best. It may stay the same, but to drop? He's only making 11 big ones.
It's term that's the issue, not AAV.

I'm sure there are a bunch of teams that would give him $11-12m for two years. But none are going to give him 4-5 years like he probably wants.

Smart move by the Giants. They’ll likely move on from him after this season, unless he wants to accept another one year deal.

Right, he’ll never get a 4-5 year deal from anyone. It was reported the Giants had originally offered him a deal that would’ve paid him $14 million a year, with $19.5 million guaranteed. Sounded like a pretty good deal. He won’t even get that if he suffers an injury plagued season in 2023 or his numbers decline.

He held out with almost no leverage and got a better deal. All he could get at this point. I believe he becomes the first franchised player to negotiate a better 1 year deal.

This may reset the market for franchised RBs seeing that the Giants did something that owners previously refused to do
I think the Giants threw a bit more cash in the pot to let Barkley save face. He's talked a big game and turned down a good offer in the downed RB market.

He could run for 2,000 yards and he's not going to get $14m with any term.

Right, because he’ll be heading into his 7th season after this year. He’ll have too much wear and tear. Paying big money to RBs isn’t paying off for teams. Teams with two of the three top rushers last season and didn’t even make the playoffs. DeMarco Murray flamed out after he got paid by Philly. Le’Veon Bell went bust after the Jets paid him. Zeke had one big season after the Cowboys paid him and it was downhill from there. McCafferty‘s numbers dropped big after Carolina paid him. The days of huge RB contracts are gone.
