Giants signing Chauncey Golston

This is a brutal loss - if we can’t resign our own players in their prime - why be a fan?

IDK......I'm still thinking it will be Jihaad Campbell
Probably not at 12, and I dont think the trade down market will be fertile given a weak top draft. We might need a QB to drop a guy they arent high on. If they are high on on whoever drops they will probably just take him. I just dont think this class is strong enough like 2021 was to get teams interested in moving up

To me Golston is one of those players that complements a package of better DL around him. Similar to guys like Tolbert and Johnson during our SB days playing alongside the likes of Haley, Maryland, and Casillas. I would have liked to have kept him, and gone after one of the better FA defensive tackles like Jonathan Allen. Move Parsons back to LB and play him at DE during passing situations. Imagine a DL combination of Jonathan Allen, Osa, Golston, Kneeland, Sam Williams, and Mazi.

I agree ........I think one of the draft gurus said it best. It's a draft w/o the number of blue chippers you would hope but players who can/will be strong starters.
I could be wrong but another reason I think Jihaad could be the pick is that Eberflus wants to turn his defense over to his guy as the leader. I'm not sure how much he will trust Parsons as a leader. As for Jerry, I'm getting the same vibes when they drafted LVE with a 1st rounder. Interestingly, our defensive run game has been as strong since LVE's rookie year.

Leader in what way? In the field, you dont want a down lineman like Parsons is calling defense. In the locker room, Parsons is going to be your alpha regardless

I do not see all the hand wringing over Gholston, many here hated the pick when he was drafted, he was not really a pass rush guy. He has value but not anything that could be replaced by a rookie or FA. His biggest contribution was position flex they moved him around on the line but he is a guy you look to upgrade when you can and let walk.

As for all the Fowler love before he was brough in by Quinn he was more or less a 1st Round bust that made a career as apass rush specialist, last year being the 2nd time in his storied career that he broke 10 sacks. His career average is 6.5 sacks.

Golston was a rotational guy but the likelihood is that we'll replace him with worse.

This is last offseason all over again. We watching good or competent players run off and we'll backfill with worse.

VERY early. FA is all of 12 hours old. And a long long ways to go. The season opener is 6 months away.
This could very well be a copy and paste from every season since we signed Brandon Carr and probably every season going forward for at least that long. Jerry loves you

For $6 million, I would have re-sign Golston. He is not a great player but he is solid and has made some plays for Dallas.

The Giants are trying to improve their team through free agency. So are the Commanders. Dallas signed to players that may not even make the team in September. "Selectively aggressive" apparently means they are just going to sign the same trash players only right away instead of waiting until June.

But look at their depth up front.

Kayvon, Burns, Lawrence, Robertson-Harris. They are looking good on D
