Giants signing Chauncey Golston

Another guy that highlighted how horrible our coaching and roster building was. Good rotation/depth guy on the edge who can help a team. Not dynamic by any means but has a little lunch pail to him. Ridiculous to play him inside on run downs and especially when you only had 2 LBers on the field and were playing 5 DBs. Yet, we were surprised when teams ran all over us and we still haven't solved the problem. You get what you deserve in life.

Not a big deal losing him. I'd rather have him because I've been a little higher on him than most, but this isn't the type of move that makes or breaks a season. Now if we lose both him and Tank and don't bring in any other DEs that are ready to be a part of our top 4, that's obviously going to be a different story

He got five sacks last year. Was coming along. Similar to Armstrong and Cowboys paid Armstrong 2 yr 12 million a few years back.

Connor McGovern is a good comp to Gholston. He started some in Dallas but was young and needed more time. Went to Buffalo, has started 33 of 34 games over the last two years and selected to the 2024 pro bowl.

Connor Williams is another one. Switched to C after having a mediocre time at guard for Dallas, immediately had by far the best season his career. Is now Seattle’s starting C, though missed some time with injury in 2024

Michael Jackson’s’ had 2 17 yard seasons since leaving Dallas, where he didn’t get to play at all

Speaking of not playing at all, There’s of course Ridgeway, who’s been a nice rotational NT for multiple teams now. He fits the spirit of this exercise well as he’d be a nice piece to have right now behind Mazi

Mike White isn’t a spectacular player, but has been a well regarded backup QB for years now.

But the 2 lineman, Ridgeway, and maybe Mike White would be nice for Dallas to have right now. So Theres precedence Gholston could continue to develop after Dallas

i think most of those guys you listed are jags but let’s say they are studs. Most of these guys go on to have worse careers. But I don’t think it’s different for anyone. I think honestly these guys are in their prime here and when they leave maybe have one or two years left which explains why offensive linemen fair better than the other positions because they have longer primes.

I did. Is he some great difference maker, of course not, but he was a good, solid player with a little nose for the ball (like in college) and he seemed to steadily improve. We didn't do him any favors by moving him around so much until we let him settle in more last year.

Not the end of the world for him to go, but I'd probably have kept him at what these days is a pretty modest price. I bet the cap hit was very small, and that last year could be fake anyway.
 
This one is a bit surprising. Not retaining one of their draft picks who is a decent player. 3 years 19-20 mil is not a lot for a young versatile DE who can play anywhere on the DL for 25-35 snaps.

The interesting thing is that’s exactly what he was projected to get. Osa was lower than his projection. That’s what moving quick and decisive does for you. 90% of the time they know what it’s gonna take so why take months to negotiate? Gholston is a nice rotational player and that’s just what those types cost. Jerry want the 2 million dollar guys. That’s why we lost Lewis. We could have signed him 3-4 years last year for half what jags paid. But we went with a cheap 1 year deal. Jerry hasn’t figured out that salaries go up a lot every year. If you want a player you lock him up asap

you act like you have some big impact on this process and that you're in the loop somehow,

let me give you some advice first of all Chauncey Golston been third on the depth chart for years, and the only reason he finally got playing time last year was because of injuries, I wish him the best, I liked him but if we don't resign him, he was not a starter, but we'd have heard this from the peanut gallery," We like our guys"

so, we let a guy go and he's the best thing since sliced bread but if we sign them you'd have heard that little narrative that floats around by the peanut gallery that we like our guy!!

so the Cowboys can't do anything right, but he's not a starter he was never a starter, he will be filled with another backup, I'm sure they're going to resign Lawson, which last I checked probably overall is a better player you can't keep everyone for every player that other people are signing they have lost the same amount have you seen San Francisco it looks like they lost 25% of their roster from last year and I don't know if they've made a single signing and then they have a $19 million running back that was hurt last year..

This process has just started in the Cowboys front office has five months to put together A Team and then hope they don't have another injury riddles season.... so, they can compete again our biggest downfall last year wasn't a bad offseason, I'm not saying it was acceptable, but I'm saying the biggest problem last year was an inordinate number of injuries, just like San Francisco and yet they're worse right now in the offseason than us...

But again, let me remind you one day has passed in a 5 month process they can actually go into October with the trade deadline the team is nowhere near complete and maybe you should stop judging the artist by the color he used for the background and saying his picture sucked before it's even complete...
 
He could be...but a draft pick is not a lock. We had a good rotation with Parsons, Lawrence, Armstrong, and Fowler. Now it is Parsons, Williams, Kneeland and ???? That is clearly weaker. And we don't even know how Williams will be. We could resign Lawson but that doesn't make us better than a year ago.
 
At least now those of us on here who actually know the dude's name won't have to see y'all spelling it 'Gholston', like it's a pun on ghost or something...

I agree but we are gonna have some holes. It’s just gonna happen. Every team has them. So if I have to have a hole at my 3rd DE spot in favor of a DT or Lb.? I have to accept it.
