News: Gil Brandt passes away

Gil Brandt definitely left his imprint on both the Dallas Cowboys and NFL History through his scouting and player evaluation efforts that were ahead of their time when he started out in 1960.

Finding "heart and soul" players from small schools like Cornell Green,Jethro Pugh and Rayfield Wright.Getting 3 All Time Great HOF Players in the 1964 Draft-Mel Renfro,Bob Hayes,Roger Staubach.Infusing the 1975 Cowboys Team with the "Dirty Dozen" Draft which added so many important contributing players that helped Coach Tom Landry continue his success through the late 1970's and early 1980's.Adding an All Time Great RB in Tony Dorsett via trade from Seattle in the 1977 Draft. And locating so many undrafted Free Agent Players that went on to outstanding careers.

Gil Brandt always praised the Great Dallas Cowboys Players that made the Team such an amazing part of NFL History and made clear his respect and admiration for Coach Landry.Fortunately he was acknowledged by the NFL and was enshrined in the HOF while he could enjoy his well deserved honor.

RIP Mr.Brandt, your place in history will never be forgotten.

His recall on events that happened decades ago would amaze me. Up until fairly recently he was on Sirus/XM radio. I was astounded at how old he was and his memories of something like, "I sat in his parents living room in 1975 for five minutes talking about football" or something like that. We lost a good one.
Same here Mort. That always blew me away. I can't remember the name of someone I just introduced myself to 30 seconds ago.

Hall of farmers, pro-bowlers, bubble players, and never made its...Gil remembered every one of them. Amazing man.

RiP

Sorry to hear this very sad news about a true Cowboy Legend. RIP sir and thank you for all the great Dallas Cowboy teams!

RIP to the Godfather.

Although Jerry fired him before I was born, I do appreciate his contributions to the franchise, to the NFL, and scouting as we know it. You can't tell the story of the NFL without mentioning Gil. I enjoyed his segments on Sirius NFL Radio for as long as I can remember.

Huge loss for the sport.
I appreciate you have understanding of his contributions even you are but a mere child.

All of us have our time unfortunately. Still sad to see him go. RIP

It's hard to put a value on what Gil Brandt has done for the Cowboys and the NFL. I feel like he is one of the most important persons the NFL has ever had work for them. I don't think he gets the credit he deserves. I will miss hearing interviews of Gil Brandt. He was a pure joy to listen to. I doubt there is anyone who has/had more football knowledge than Gil Brandt.

What can you say…the man was a legend and left a huge mark. All Cowboys fans should be thankful Gil Brandt was on our team. The franchise still feeds off his work. An NFL titan. God Bless his loved ones. Rest In Peace Gil Brandt and thank you.

I am right there with you. Can’t remember names, Gil was awesome at it in his 90’s.

A true and original Cowboy has left the room.......................R.I.P. Gil.

Outstanding football personnel mind! I could listen to him for hours talking about his memories of stories, and all the great talent that graced our beloved Dallas Cowboys!

I had the opportunity to spend a week with Gil Brandt about 25 years ago. He was a player personnel savant. He had a great memory as I saw him at a preseason game 25 years later and he remembered me, our conversations, and the family member that was in the NFL draft 25 years ago.

Gil Brandt and John Wooten, who I hope is next in the NFL Hall of Fame, are the kind of men you are thankful that God gave you an opportunity to meet and share time with them.

May the Lord watch between me and thee while we are absent one from another. May God give comfort and peace to the Brandt family.

RIP Gil. He was one of the best. He revolutionized scouting and the NFL combine altogether. Thankful for everything he has done for the Cowboys and the NFL.
