Maybe he just doesn't wear it at home?He was wearing the brace in August
Not sure where he is now, but he appears to be no longer wearing the brace in the family picture.

In the base the SAM takes on more of the head-on rushing attack.....the MIKE and WILL get protection from the DL and do more of the chasing...but DAL is in Nickel most of the time with just the MIKE and WILL and the MIKE has to be able to cover a huge area....thumpers are no goodi was thinking about the same thing regarding mlb.
though others have pointed out that SLB does not play much.
and Lee is the WLB - who was moved there from MLB due to the harsher conditions.
Spoke to a researcher who did nerve regeneration research.
She is not a specialist in foot drop however.
Assuming the foot drop has improved, then it looks like the nerve axons have regenerated to the muscle though there are generally multiple locations on the muscle.
Functional recovery for a damaged motor nerve does not happen as an on/off situation.
Functional recovery is often measured by the amount of force that the target muscle can generate.
It is not over days either.
Generally weeks or months.
She said we may know in 3 months how much Jaylon gets back.
Her group used to do research on a medical device called a nerve regeneration channel or nerve guidance conduit.
These can be used if the nerve is severed to guide the regenerating axons to the target muscle.
This device can get the nerve regrowth close to the muscle, but what happens at the muscle is based on luck and other factors.

Jaylon Smith will be the perfect 3 down MIKE with his size, speed, instincts and coverage ability
@FuzzyLumpkins, who probably remembers best, said that previous publications indicated that Jaylon could not walk AT ALL without the brace.
I recall the same thing.
Without nerve control, the muscle is limp, and you get the foot fall condition where the person cannot walk without the brace.
The photo shows Jaylon wearing shoes, so he is likely walking without a brace.
Having said, there could possibly be a brace that is detachable without removing the shoes and he may happen to use that at home and he may have removed it while playing with the kids.

Well all the old channels were still there in Jaylon's case so all of the complications with grafts and your friends procedures are a nonissue.
You've seen people with parkinson's, cerebral palsy, and similar neurological disorders? They shake and lose motor function and sensation occasionally. That is what I am talking about. Sometimes when the nerve comes back that is what it's like.
You are talking about when the axons begin to fire and there are still axonal connections that can be made and muscles that need to be rehabbed. I get that.
I don't think that Jaylon Smith is a good fit at MLB. He was largely a WLB in college, and struggled taking on blocks. He would excel at WLB or SLB, provided he recovers fully from the leg injury.
You can walk with drop foot, it's just that your gate is not normal as you have to pick up your knee high so the front of your foot (toes) don't drag. If your in a private environment, such as your home, I can see him maneuvering around without it.
Right, this is absolutely not a situation for nerve regrowth channels.
The channels are used if severed.
Even then, doctors will often suture the two ends of the nerve fiber together.
As far as Jaylon and doctors are concerned, they may only care about functional recovery at this point.
As rich as Cowboys are, I dont think they bring Jaylon to the MRI every week (though there is no radiation).
Even with a MRI or whatever instrumentation, I am not sure there is enough resolution to see how the nerve is connecting with the muscle etc.
There are also multiple places on the muscle for the nerve to reconnect.
I dont think the axons get to all those places at the same time.
Although I have no idea how far apart these places are.
again @FuzzyLumpkins probably remembers the statements here better than me.
my recollection is Jaylon could not walk at all without the brace after the injury.
There are special MRI called MRN to look at that and I don't know that the Cowbys have one of those. They have an MRI machine if not several at the Star. I know that for a fact although I doubt they have an MRN.
Someone asked him if he wore the brace when he wasn't at practice and he said yes and then looked down and pointed out he was wearing it then.
You have to gimp around like this without the brace.
At his best McClain was a freak...he was huge but he could move but even last year it looked he lost a step and his coverage suffered...finding a Kuechly or Urlacher or RLewis is really toughGood to hear.
Stupid Mcclain...
When was this asked?
So are we still in limbo?
He talks about him still wearing it in the most recent interview a few weeks ago. He said he needed it to walk right around the time the seasons started.
Not necessarily.More unfounded speculation that people will take and run with.
If things were that promising, who thinks Jones is not talking about it?
