Give Me 3 Positions
That Put Us Over The Top

1)

2)

3)

We are competitive right now but if you looked at our roster including potential sleepers like Gardner ala Crawford circa 2014, what positions make an impact or have that hidden ability to surprise?

We saw O-Line continue to be the reason we kept elevating, something many have wanted since 2009..

We saw a rushing attack being forged not just behind this wall but when there was nothing and things got dirty..

We saw WR's come up big, time after time, and Witten with a sprinkle of the Gavster..

We've seen Romo make plays..

LB's for days...

Still missing that DT and secondary play but have somewhat good enough if all the other pieces come up big or just as good.

Truth is it appears one way but might just unfold another..

Not many expected 13-5, Boys it looks like we "sitting" in High Cotton...

RB- Our offense relies heavily on the running game and we have nothing proven there. While the offensive line is the best in the NFL, a good runningback is needed to make the running game truly dangerous. We need one that not only can run well, but also pass protect well so Romo doesn't get killed. Randle may get more opportunities this year, so he'll have a chance to show if he can be effective in a more expansive role. Ryan Williams looks good running, but his pass protection needs to improve. I haven't watched McFadden in the pros, so I'll refrain from commenting on him. It's possible one of the runningbacks on the roster will break out, or that we will draft someone to take over, but until then it's a huge question mark for me. A lot of people think Murray was solely a product of the oline, and they definitely helped, but he put up good numbers before last season. His biggest issues were injuries.

DE- Greg Hardy was a huge addition, but he's on a one year deal. Like most people I feel that the trenches are extremely important. Hardy is the only proven pass rusher on the team. Crawford showed a lot of promise last year, and I expect him to continue that progress he's shown. Lawrence made some plays in the playoffs, but I'm still iffy on him. Yes, I'm aware he missed a lot of time to injury and that limited valuable practice time that most rookies need, but until/if he shows something I consider that to be a huge question mark. Mincey is a good rotation player and a solid starter. We don't have much of a pass rush from the 1-tech spot, but as long as they can command a double team I consider that passable.

Even assuming Greg Hardy plays like he has in the past and stays out of trouble, and Lawrence plays up to his potential, defensive end would still be a tremendous help. Even moreso than DT IMO. A large percentage of snaps are in the Nickel formation. Hardy can slide inside next to Crawford. Then Lawrence and another DE could rush from the outside. If Lawrence can be what the front office thought they were getting on draft day this could provide a formidable pass rush. This would help out the secondary more than just adding a corner IMO.

FS- A top-flight ball hawk free safety could put this team over the edge. Having a rangy center fielder would open up a lot scheme-wise. I'm of the belief this may very well be the hardest type of player to find in football. Having this type of FS would free up Church or Wilcox to play closer to the line. It would also not only help in run support, but with the SS covering a short to intermediate space, it would make it harder for opposing receivers to get open in a short amount of time. This would make the opposing quarterback hold onto the ball longer giving the pass rush more time to get pressure or the sack. Having a rangy safety back there would also help to mitigate our corners that aren't Scandrick's cover abilities.

I'm of the belief we already have enough talent to win the Super Bowl. We came close last year. I realize close doesn't count as a Super Bowl win, but it bodes well for future chances. But with these three position upgrades, the Cowboys would have an even better chance to get #6. I don't expect us to be able to get all three, but two of these would go a long way to hopefully outdoing last year's success.

In no particular order:

1. FS- A top-notch FS who can cover and offer run support.
2. DT- A truly dominant force in the front middle of the defense.
3. KR/PR- A special talent in this role always gives an advantage.

Not kidding.

Just trying to be helpful here, Sir...but Cheerleaders were left off that list. I'm sure the quality of ladies on the jumbo screen will be paramount to high levels of noise in the Stadium this season.

I'll take a defensive tackle and end. Throw in a Daren Woodson value at safety, and I would overlook linebacker up high in the draft.

Woodson could also play nickel cornerback at a high level.

I take it you noticed how pitiful Chris Jones really was last season. He alone could've easily cost us a few games. Yes, he was that bad. Woefully inconsistent. Imagine how much better our defense would have looked had we had a punting game.

3 needs to put us over the top.

Gardner and Williams might be big surprises this year, or just a lot of hype. I'm hoping for the former.. Does anybody have vids on these cats?

Bob, if Cheerleaders were draftable, than by all means I would be using my top picks every year on one. Sure the talent on the team might suffer, but thats just me. Every man has their weaknesses.
