He was tough and demanding on rookies and young players, making them earn their opportunities and appreciate their success...

Prior to Parcells we got in the bad habit of starting players who didn't earn it and weren't ready... Quincy Carter, Antonio Bryant (to name a few of many)...

As a result, three mediocre 5-11 seasons...

I think this year you'll see the fruits of Parcell's methods... we have young players like Fasano, Burnett and Carpenter (to name a few) who are hungry to prove themselves...

A QB in Romo who had time to develop and mature into the role of team leader...

Bash Parcells all you want for his deficiencies as a strategist on game day... but the man certainly knows how to develop and motivate young players and build the foundation of a successful team...

I like Parcells. I like much of what he did here. However, he's been credited in eleventy billion other threads already. Let go of the man boob. K? ;)

Thank you. The cowboys are measured on super bowls, not on roster improvements or how hard the team worked and all that other nonsense. Bottom line was 0-2 in the playoffs, zero division titles. His act wore thin. I'm happy he's gone, the players seem much more relaxed and ready to turn it loose.

How quickly you forget the laughingstock this franchise was after three years of Lacewell, Campo and Jones bungling things up... Tony Banks, Ryan Leaf, Quincy Carter or Chad Hutchinson would never have worn a Cowboys jersey had Parcells been here...

All I'm saying is give the man credit for restoring order to the mess that this team was... just as Dungy laid the foundation for Gruden in Tampa, Parcells laid the foundation for Phillips...

Personally, I don't hate Parcells. The game just passed him by, that's all.

For the record-if we were in the AFC, we would have suffered through 4 losing seasons instead. And as for grooming the younger players et al, he really didn't do THAT great of a job-pretty much all of them(especially Julius Jones) would get off to FAST starts, then just regress as time would go on(I believe we had many threads on this the last couple of years).

I agree-his act wore thin as time wore on.

That and Parcells showing Jerry that you can draft quality players who are quality human beings and more importantly....that's exactly what you should do in the draft. If you want to go after the talented but volatile players, paint them into a corner and get them as an undrafted free agent or sign them to a contract where you can get out of it any time w/o much penalty.

Tyson Thompson is a perfect example of this and you could probably say the same for Sam Hurd (some questioned his attitude coming out of college). Even Jermaine Brooks....a guy who barely played for the team, but had a really bad weapons and drug charge against him in college...was a perfect example of this. Brooks tried hard, stayed out of trouble, but wasn't good enough and Dallas wound up cutting him with virtually no consequence.

Jerry was beside himself at the end of Campo's tenure. The team stunk.

It is easy to say that the are measured on Super Bowls and nothing else, but the fact is that the roster had to be improved significantly. And Parcells did that.

Keep in mind that Parcells did a POOR job in building the OL. Who could forget Jacob "I want to sit on my injured fanny" Rogers and Stephen Pederman?

As bad as we were under Campo, at least the OL was far better than Parcells'.

Some of us are getting older, that was so long ago memory is starting to fade.: It's nice to know we had a coach here who had the power to get us closer to future excellence.
Hopefully that doesn't get screwed up.:D

He did do that. The problem is, that isn't the only thing he was hired to do. That is why his term here will be considered a failure.

Stuff like that is made possible, when you have, you know.... a HOF QB; soon to be HOF RB; HOF WR; an elite OL.

all i'm saying is i'm sick and tired of the "3 5-11 seasons is our direction!!!!!" whining just cause parcells left.

we had a good record before that and we have a nice solid history. the "selective memory" gets old as if that's our only option.

It would be hard to argue it wasn't our direction. We were doing nothing to change it. I get your point though.

I appreciate everything Parcells did for this team. I believe that if his brother had not died we would have won a Superbowl under him. I think Bill just lost his fire after his best friend/brother passed away.

That is a good point! Very good point, indeed!

That seemed to be the downfall of his energy towards the team...he seemed really lifeless after that. Prior to that, I think he was full of energy...but, like you just brought up, (and I had forgot about that) I think that is what doomed him.

I beg to differ...We are not measured in Sbs.

We have not won in a long time, so We have no room to measure Parcells or Our success in Sbs.

PArcells in Dallas was a success IMO. He made our team 10Xs better and Now We are in position to Win a SB.

You say We're 0-2 in the playoffs..Well that's better then 5-11 seasons being the laughing stock of the NFC East.

I dont want to sound like I'm settleing for less, But He did improve Our team. And in the end I'm satisfied with it.
