I keep hearing people talk about giving up on Romo. Let's pretend as if there was a consensus that thought that was a good idea.

Do these people realize that we're at least 20 million dollars over the projected cap next year?

Let's look at scenario

A) Release/Trade Tony Romo

That is a 21 million dollar cap hit, making us at least 41 million dollars over the cap. You'll never be able to cut enough players to recover from that.

B) Cut Romo in June

This is a more modest cap hit. That's a cap hit of 500k dollars. At first you might think it is manageable. Except when you realize that it would almost make it impossible to get under the cap. You could restructure Ware, Carr, Witten, and Lee, and you would still be over the cap by 750k dollars. And you would be over the 2015 cap by 3 million dollars, and it would be much more difficult to manage that cap by releasing any of those players in 2015 since you just restructured them, and don't have the QB's salary to work with.

This on top of losing your franchise quarterback.

C) Don't restructure Romo, have a terrible season because we have essentially the same defense as last year minus Hatcher and whoever else you have to cut in order to get under the cap. And then I guess you could cut Romo the following year when his dead money changes from 41 million to 20 million, but again you're taking the risk that you're going to find a franchise qb in the draft (despite the fact that teams around the league do it over and over again and fail). You could either take the full 20 million hit in 2015 or you could spread it 8 million in 2015 and 12 million in 2016.

I think it is hilarious how desperate people want to plunge us into the depths of Jacksonville and Cleveland. When we have a QB who has been in the top 10 in every year he has ever played in the league.

and yet you keep thinking your way is the only way WHEN Garrett and Jerry have both proven to you it doestn work. I am a big Romo fan, but we arent doing the playoffs next year, and Romos successor must be found now. how hard is this for you?

We were a game out from the playoffs not just this year, but the two previous, and you're ready to rule us out of the playoffs? That says a lot...

Like I said, you can destroy this team in your mistaken fervor to somehow replace romo for the future, or you can accept reality, and accept that Romo is the best shot we have to make the playoffs and win a super bowl, and thus the best way to maximize that reality is to build the team around him, and not waste picks on a quarterback who may or may not pan out, and even if they do, they still have a horrible team around them...

Please look at St. Lous, Miami, Detroit, Cleveland, New York Jets, Tampa Bay, the list goes on...

omg. you just dont get it. JJs has told you, in english, 3 times in a row, the playoffs are NOT his concern, filling his stadium. Why are you NOT getting this. This team is NOT, not playing for the playoffs, you werent 1 game away, you were a 3 time loser in one game. In no way, shape, form, any football knowledge has this guy proven to anyone who gets the game, that he is willing to make the changes to his football team.

earth to GB, the SKINS have changed coaches, whats that tell you.

The Skins replaced their head coach because they won 3 games this year... And even that isn't on Shanahan. Shanahan worked with what he had. He had a QB coming back from a knee injury, and a team that couldn't make moves because of their cap penalties, of which were much more serious than ours, but the same goes to us.

5 million dollars a year? That is a pro bowl caliber player.

With Ware, Spencer, Ratliff, and Hatcher gone next year, the longest tenured player on defense will be Orlando Scandrick followed by Sean Lee.

We aren't as far off as you think, and rebuilding the defensive line will reflect that. Slightly upgrading the offensive line will reflect that as well.

and you are still losing the year. So build, build right and dump the core. Short of the division being horrible you arent winning, oh wait, that already happened, and we still lost. Well that, what other excuse will you have for us Garrett, the " I didnt have a qb" excuse.?

I would have fired Garrett. I'm not sure if you're drunk or just used to straw man arguments.

Romo put up 48 points against Denver and lost... You don't fix this defense and no QB is going to win. That starts with the defensive line.

The implosion this team would have giving up romo early... Not even funny.

We have no choice but to keep Romo, there's nothing that can be done with him. But that doesn't mean you can't bring in his successor. And if Carr, Bortles or another top rated QB falls to us, we should take him and let him sit for a year or two.

Yes we need to draft defense, but it is asking for a miracle to if you expect these rookie draft choices to elevate you to the playoffs and SB as rookies.

Don't forget. He also threw some incomplete passes in that game. That isn't on the defense either.

my point is the loss came on teh interception, if Romo goes down the field and scores, we win, no one is blamed. Romo throws the interception, no one on the D did. Romo did. Sorry, thats the way it goes. Like it or not.

How are you reading this as Jones isn't driven to win the trophy ? That's insane

Are you insinuating that one place cost the game? If so, I'm just going to smh and move on.

no im insuating obviously it was the defense that threw the interception. You know, the one that Romo threw, but clearly to some on the board here, it was someone on the D. Sad to say our D was up against a good qb, our qb was having a stellar day, but stats dont win the game.

Well, the OLine is better but in the END the Franchise was sidelined.... it was the OLine that ended our chances....yet again.
