Especially when there are posts about every player that could be criticized on the same ground. I noted a post about Crayton yesterday where someone say "he always fair catches" or something like that.

Do we ALL know what that means? Yes, clearly PC fair catches more than we'd like but taken LITERALLY that statement means he ONLY fair catches and that clearly is not true.

The difference is, it's pretty clear what a fair catch is and what a return is. Furthermore, it's trivial to compile the statistics and see where PC's fair catch percentage ranks among all punt returners.

If someone says a DB can't cover, it's pretty hard to pin them down to a statistic or set of statistics by which to measure the observation. Most of the time, such a statement is made by someone not inclined to change his opinion. Such a person might counter by claiming "I know what I see."

All of it makes me wonder why anyone wastes a keystroke on trying to persuade the writer of such a statement otherwise.

You think Hamlin and Roy are equally to blame?

I think that would be a stretch. Both or either should and could have made that play. We aren't really talking about one play. And I'm not going to go into a play by play blow when we're talking about a subjective opinion of a person's body of play over an extended period of time.

That specific play was used as an example to criticize Roy. One of the central themes for those in the "Roy PR group" is that he's unfairly blamed by those that won't or can't actually assess blame accurately. This is a great example of such a play.

I don't think most people are on his hinny for one reason. I don't keep a written record of every play where Roy is or isn't blamed vs those that he should be or shouldn't be, yada yada yada.

Most of us take his entire body of play and come to the conclusion that Roy needs to step it up. Sure there are the Roys sucks lets take him out back and beat the crap out of him. But for every one of those there are many who don't feel that way.

What I'm hearing over and over is the 'Roy haters' pick on poor Roy even when its not his fault. And they attribute so much of that wrongness into forming that opinion, ie we have it all wrong and we are also ignorant posters who are just haters.

Well you're just wrong. And if this shoe doesn't fit you, whoever you are, then just keep on going. And if it does then stop taking yourself so seriously. The fate of the free world does not rest on RW's play.

and you missed that I got the gist entirely. but that I felt the "gist" was idiotic.

So, what is the gist of that thread?

And why is it idiotic?
