Your in a black alley...On your left...is Goff..On your right is Wentz....Out comes a mob of angry people. Who you think has your back when push comes to shove?

I got a feeling then the bullets start to fly...skinny Goff is hidding under a car...

Skinny Goff is "hidding" .....

Wentz has the higher ceiling as a player, I believe that Goff has the higher floor. Goff is also two years younger than Wentz, and has less of a concussion history than Wentz.

While I wouldn't be upset with either as a selection, I prefer Goff. I think he's better at anticipation throws, and is superior in ball placement.

He has less injury history in general than Wentz.

Im almost certain that someone is gonna trade up for Wentz or CLE will simply pick him at 2. I don't like the idea of trading up and spending so much on him if Goff is within my reach.
And the more I read about Goff the more I like that choice for us. So when Wentz is selected I hope we stay at 4 and draft Goff

I preface this by saying that I would pick Wentz over Goff because of upside and because Romo has a couple of good years left. But in reviewing film, Goff is the more proven commodity. Right now, Wentz is a one-read QB who has not proven he can go through progressions and hit the right man. Watch his film; you rarely, if at all, see his head move from one side to the other before he throws. NFL draft history is littered with QBs who have great physical attributes, but who proved they could not read a defense... Jeff George, Akili Smith, David Carr, RGIII, etc. I'm not saying Wentz can't do it. Im just saying he hasn't yet... On the other hand, Goff can and has. It's his greatest strength. You watch his film and you see his head move 1, 2, 3 times before he lets the ball go. Even when it is clear he is throwing to an outside receiver in a one-read play, he looks off the safety first. These are traits that a QB needs to succeed in the NFL (along with accuracy and a quick release, which Goff also has). Now, Goff does not have Wentz's arm or mobility. Not even close. But I am coming around to the fact that Goff is the safer pick and I'd be happy to have him at 4 (if Ramsey is not there). If Romo went down this year, I am confident Goff could win more games than Wentz. And while he may not have Wentz's upside (Andrew Luck), he has enough upside (Matt Ryan) and less downside. Just my opinion.

A spot-on & logical analysis of the differences between Wentz & Goff.

In December I believe Wentz will be 24 years old. If he sits for 2 years behind Romo he will already be 26. I think that has to be a consideration, not that 24 is old, but that he would only have 4-6 years before he's 30 years old. It's similar to Sean Lee who will be 30 this summer.

I don't think anyone is worried about his age. QB play into late 30s if you are any good. Romo didn't get to really play until he was what 27?
Pick the QB you think will be the franchise guy.

Good point. I didn't think of it that way.

I would rather take Ramsey or Jack at 4 and grab Lynch. To be Lynch had the most upside of all the QBs and will be sitting behind Romo learning.

That helps our team now and for the future

I like both guys, but Goff is the safer pick because he's been a better QB than Wentz, is younger, and has less question marks.

If Cleveland takes Wentz, we should be thankful. Very rarely do you get the best QB in the draft at 4.

Isn't part of the we need a qb in this draft argument because we need a quality backup for this year since we have a 36 year old injury prone qb, and failed to get one in free agency?

You rather draft the guy most ready to play today or the guy with the highest ceiling? I don't think either QB takes this team to the playoffs this year if tony goes down and that's not important to me. I want the guy who takes this team every year to the playoffs in the future

Except is that really an option? How do you go about adding a second first rnd pick?

If I'm taking a qb at #4 I want him to be able to step in and play 1-4 games if needed, and at least get us a split. Obviously if romo goes down week 3 and is out for the year then yeah my hopes are pretty low for the season with or without wentz/goff. However If a qb isn't right now a better option than Kellen Moore he's probably too big a project for me to justify taking that high.

If I were jason garrett I seriously consider sitting romo any time we play Thursday games, and giving my backup at least one start this year. Romo on short rest has been terrible the past couple years.

Romo doesn't even get us to the playoffs every year. You have high expectations for qbs not even selected number 1. If they were that great somebody will trade up.

If you have a quality QB you always have a shot at the playoffs. You may not make it every year but you have a chance. Without a QB you chances are slim

So Troy Aikman wouldn't have been a good QB to pick since he couldn't do that his first year either. Qb's are not about what they can do as a rookie but what they can be over a career

If the Cowboys draft a QB, he will be the backup for 2 years. Unless you are banking on Romo suffering a carer-ending type injury during that time. So either player Goff or Wentz definitely should be ready to handle the pressure when that time comes. If not, we obviously didn't draft the right player.

Now Romo probably will miss games during that 2 year period, but he will still be the starter upon his return. In the offseason of 2018 that is where you'll see the team make the "graceful" transition from Romo to Wentz/Goff.

While I agree with you in principal, if Romo suffers another broken collarbone he might as well retire.
