Part of the problem with these teams is it takes some time for the stars to mesh. Maybe even more then a season. Miami looked bad at times during the first season of Lebron/Wade/Bosh and even lost in the Finals to a lesser talented Mavs team. But they eventually gelled

True. But Golden essentially swapped Barnes for Durant. The core and the coaching remained. Whereas Miami was a completely new project. Same with Boston when they got KG and Allen (though they won their first year).

Not completely accurate. They lost Mo Speights, Bogut, and Barnes. All of those guys were integral parts of their regular rotation.

I'm a Dallas Mavs fan (like probably many on this board) so I saw plenty of Zaza and McGee who are now two of the centers, that is why I predicted Golden State would not be champions this year. I think the phrase "defense wins championships" applies to basketball just as well as football. Yes they have an all time great 1-4 offensively but other than Klay none of them are great defenders, and their centers are terrible and will allow a freeway to the basket. That feeds right into Lebron. But I'm starting to question if they even make the Finals now, I'm thinking Spurs or Clippers might get there instead.

They lost Barnes. lol. And danced on the streets because so.

Barnes went for 19/9 tonight. Carlisle is a damn good coach at coaching up players and Barnes is a good defender, he just can't create or dribble. I absolutely cringe at the contract he got and he will never live up to it but I think he can be an above average player.

If Durant didn't go there I wonder if GS would have given Barnes the same contract 4 years/96 million, that's the question. I'm not sure they could have replaced him and they'd probably be thinking about chemistry, and also they wouldn't have had to trade Bogut. Even though he wasn't great they won a championship then 73 games and Barnes was one of their starters.

GS had to strip a lot of depth to get Durrant in there.

The difference is Lebron didn't join a title ready team. He was the reason that they were a contender.

The problem is, Golden State was a title ready team by the way they were constructed last year. Deadly shooters, a potent backcourt, interior defense and a deep bench. They traded the away last two things to bolster the first two. I'm not saying they're not still the favorites or best team, but they have more holes and weaknesses than they did last year. Their strength got stronger, but they created weaknesses where there weren't any.

I totally agree. I am not trying to be overreaction guy, but even though they are overall better outside shooting team than the Spurs or Cavs, both of those teams are pretty good shooting teams, but are far superior defensively now. Golden State the last two years were able to get hot with transition 3s and easy layups. Not going to get that with no interior defense to start the break.
