why I chose not to renew my subscription to the Sunday Ticket, and cancelled my D-TV account in the process, was because they jacked up the price to $315, why in heavens would I pay $350 to watch it through a computer ?

While I have no evidence of this ( only from what I and most of my friends have done ) this is more desperate attempts by D-Tv to try to get back some of the customers they've lost because of the price increase.

Only problem is that, just like the article mentioned, the NBA and MLB charge less than $100 ( $89 if you get the regular broadband package ) and they have hundreds of more games.

They're idiots.

Out of my price range, sadly. Around $250 and I would jump on it

I wouldn't, if I were you. Take it from someone with experience in broadband packages ( MLB and NBA ).. While MLB and NBA are great, great, great value , they're not perfect. Servers tend to falter from time to time, and once in a while you have to keep adjusting for " freeze ups ", due to the HD.

At most, and this is the top anybody should pay for any broadband package, it should be $120. Anything beyond that, you're entering into rip off territory.

Let me put it to you in another way, if they're offering the broadband package to Sunday Ticket subscribers for $50, it is because it costs them about $40 for it.

Now, take that same service and offer it to the public at $100. That's twice the profit with alot more subscribers. What they're afraid of, which is what MLB and NBA were initially afraid of but eventually they found out they were completely wrong, is that people would stop subscribing to D-TV and get the Ticket on-line. However, those fears are without merit because the vast majority of on-line subscribers ( as MLB and NBA found out ) are the hardcore fans. The casual fan does not like to watch sports through computers, so they get it from TV. IN other words, their subscriptions weren't affected. On the contrary, they ( MLB and NBA ) made a killing through the internet because they got more hardcore fans to participate.

$350 is more than the DirecTV NFLST satellite package. Why would anyone pay more more for internet access only? It makes no sense.

I'm guessing the $350 includes the satellite and online option. I have had the ticket for over 13 years and the price keeps on rising, I keep paying even though the lat few years I would have only missed 6-10 games combined.

My dish and receiver is not even HD. I have cable also. I just pay for the Sunday ticket. $300 is worth not guessing if I will miss a game. $350 for the online option means my daughter in college in CA will also not miss a game.

Sue me, but Sundays from September to January, 3 hours a week (for the game), no one bother me. If friends come over, its not social, no talking.

I don't want to go to a sports bar, fight for a seat that is close to the TV, I want to drink my own beer, smoke cigs as I watch the game (bad jarv, the only time I smoke in the house). I want no last minute thoughts on am I going to get the game or not. It's worth it to me.

$300-$350 may seem a lot for a few games that I don't get on cable, but the piece of mind is priceless.

To me the 300 bucks for sunday ticket is nothing compared to what I would spend in a bar.

I figure... lets say 8-10 Commanders games are not broadcast on nationwide TV. I would spend about 50 bucks per week (food and drinks) for me and my lady to watch it at a bar (400-500 bucks).

I can watch every single game of any team. Either live or on the replay. In the comfort of my own home without having to drive home after, and with the best seats.

Wow this is funny.

I called the other day and cancelled for this exact reason, and had a 20 minute conversation about not being allowed to have a dish, but wanted to watch online.

Looks like I'll be buying that now.

It makes sense if you live somewhere where you don't have a clear sightline for a dish or your homeowners association doesn't allow satellite dishes. I have DTV but I get poor reception from all the trees in the southern part of my area. I have a clear view to the east so I ended up getting Dish Network for my main programming and kept DTV for the NFL package. Now I'll be able to drop DTV which requires a programming package to receive the football package. I was paying approx $800 a year for the programming package plus NFL Sunday Ticket so $350 to watch the Cowboys over the Internet would be a $450 savings for me. :D

I'm considering it.

The DirecTV online watching is pretty good. It's not the NFL stuff that has been flying around for this preseason.

It's been going for like 2-3 years now I think. Usually they have 1 free weekend, the first week of the year. That's how it was last year, I believe.

I'm actually shocked they are going to do it.

Yeah, it's not just the flat fee for the package. It's the addition monthly costs for programming and equipment. This actually isn't a bad idea for anyone with two services.

They can go screw themselves. Their streaming is horrible. I have a 24/3 connection and the streaming from the NFL network was horrid. I can stream hidef content from Netflix without any problems.

Directv better knock off $100 and offer a 100% money guarantee before I would even consider this.

I don't think the streaming from NFL.com and the streaming from DirecTV are the same.

DirecTV has actually had pretty damn good quality in the past.

if anyone has ever used their online streaming, is it good? We had to downgrade our internet to the economy on Comcast. What is the speed you need to make sure your feed is adequate/good? Thanks.

DirecTV can pound sand. I'll take my 45/45 Fios any day and twice on sunday...I'll miss NFL ticket but DirecTV is a ripoff. At least I get amazing high speed internet and non-watered down HD with Fios plus 75% of Cowboys games will probably be nationally televised anyways.

That's fine if you can get FIOS. I'm betting that DTV is available to millions of people that FIOS is not. I sure can't get FIOS.

I love DTV and Sunday Ticket. Satellite programming is cheaper and better than what I can get on cable. With Sunday Ticket I never have to worry about whether or not I'll be getting the Cowboys game, missing the first quarter because the 1:00 game went into OT or being switched away to another game because the network doesn't like the score of the one I'm watching (I've experienced none of that in 14 years). I'd much rather watch the Cowboys at home than go bar hopping (I live in a small town anyway, so I'd probably have to drive an hour to find the game). And I like watching other games when the 'Boys aren't playing. Sunday Ticket is well worth the price to me, and it must be to a lot of other folks as well. If it weren't, the price wouldn't keep going up.

No thanks,

I will keep my 40 buck a month Dish Network and see all the Dallas games. If by some chance I miss one? There is a bar right down the street.

I am good.

The DTV streaming was excellent the few times I watched it.

Well let's do the math:

Primetime games:

Week 1 - Wash
Week 7 Giants
Week 9 GB
Week 12 NO (thanksgiving)
Week 14 Philly
Week 16 Ari

Weeks we have a strong possibility of being the national game. All of these are at 4:00 EST with limited competition

Week 5 Ten (vs SD/Oak or NO/Ari)
Week 6 Min – I’ll cold stone lock that’s the national game
Week 10 NYG (vs. KC/Den, STL/SF or Sea/Ari)

Remaining 1:00 EST games

Week 2 CHI
Week 3 HOU
Week 8 JAX
Week 11 DET
Week 15 Wash
Week 17 PHI

I’d be willing to bet at least 2 of these will be selected to be national depending how the season is going, and certainly Philly Week 17 if the division is still up for grabs (or even Wash week 15 if they surprise).

So conceivably, you could be paying $350 for 4 games that are not on TV just to watch them on your computer.

(granted I didn’t take into account local teams where you are – i.e. I think the Jets play at the same time as Dal in week 6 against MN, so being in the NY area I’ll lose a game there. But still….)
