Romo gets teammates on practice schedule

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, right, and tight end Jason Witten run drills at the team's headquarters and training facility Friday, April 29, 2011, in Irving, Texas.

<snip>

Quarterback Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys kind of like it that way. For now, at least.

With the lockout keeping NFL teams from their usual offseason practices, Romo has organized a series of workouts that have been attended by more than 40 players.

<snip>

The sessions, which began last week, aren’t just guys hanging out or throwing balls around. They are highly structured, with Romo watching the clock and blowing a whistle at the end of each drill so everyone knows to move on to the next one. There are walkthrough periods and specific plays to be worked on each day.

“It’s literally like we’re doing the same things we’d be doing at an OTA [organized team activity] - the tempoand everything,” Romo said Monday. “I’ve been around it long enough that I have plenty of schedules laying around my house that I’ve been able to use for the time frame. We’re at stretch for seven minutes. Bam, you go right into ‘pat and go.’ We move right into ‘move the ball.’ And guys are going. You jump in and, boom, you’re in the next play. We’re pushing it. ... I can’t imagine other teams going quite to the extent of the team practices, and that’s exciting to us.”

I think it's good Dak is tossing the ball around but I wonder if he is watching film on west coast offense and working on reading defenses quicker. He also needs to see a sports psychologist to work on his mental game.

Yep, and as mentioned previously in the thread, why arent the practices involving defenses. A couple of DB's would at least give a realistic look and potential Defensive perspectives. Look at Quentin Johnson, I bet he'd look an elite WR1 in 'the yard', but as soon as he hit the field it would be a case of Mike Tyson's "everyone has a plan, until....."

There's very little benefit in taking easy steps, unless it's realistic "under live fire"....but I suppose there's time.

start small first, have some toddlers rush him to help him on fear, then some 5 and 6-year-olds covering the receivers. baby steps. I'm sure that some of the single guys will have 4 or 5 children they could bring to practice.

Same would be said for Troy Aikman or Tom Brady if coached by Jason Garrett.
Wasn't Dak also coached by JG? and did Romo not get Parcells also? I agree with your statement but it applies to all QB's JG coached not just certain ones.

Post like these always make me question "critics" IQ...

Isnt McCarthy switching to WC offense next year? So why wouldnt Dak study every aspect of the offense they are running?

Also, Dak has talked openly about his mental health for years.

Stop wondering and guessing. It takes 2 minutes to Google these things.

I'm not talking about mental health. I'm talking about sports psychologist. His choking has been holding the team from going any further. Google it!

Dak is far down the list of things that are preventing this team from going further.

Blaming Dak is... lazy.
