Goose gives Dallas a D

you think Goose is bad, Bayless on Cold Pizza just said we had the worst draft of anyone in the league. saying we shouldnt have passed on Quinn, cause everyone has figured out "Tony Romeo"
This from someone who thought Steve Walsh was the franchise qb over Aikman.
And said so on the Sportsreporters(ESPN) years ago.
Bayless is a clueless ignorant controversy bimbo.

He almost got flushed down an airplane toliet for that one. Jimmy should have left him to survive on his own.

Gosselin's idiotic draft grades are based on a flawed formula -- he simply takes the average rating of all of the players you select, then converts that to a letter grade. He doesn't take into account where the picks that you have are and the comparative value that you get out of those picks. So if you have very few first-day picks and lots of second-day picks, you're going to get a low grade. And he doesn't take into account trading for future draft picks, either.

interesting. i wonder what gooselin's grade was after our 2001 draft. betcha it was a D. everybody around these parts takes comfort that we'll nail an A+ next year.

And it makes no difference at all what any amateur football scribe thinks. Goose is entertaining but he is on the outside and has no responsibility for results. Those on the inside who make judgments do.

I actually agree. I think Dallas did horrible in the draft. I love the Cowboys and now that these players are Cowboys I will root like crazy for them. That being said, I think our owner did the team a disservice this weekend.

I honestly feel that Jerry is so in love with the image of him being a "wheeler and dealer" or a "gambler" that it causes him to make some silly draft mistakes. There were players that we passed on that I think many of us will be on this board discussing for years to come.

I like the fact that we got what will hopefully be a high pick from Cleveland next year. Unfortunately, next year's draft (at this time) looks very weak.

I do not like the Spencer pick and I really don't feel we needed to trade up to get him. I watched him a lot at the combine. I remember because he had a ridiculous mohawk. When they put him in the linebacker drills where he had to drop back and cover he looked pretty bad. He seemed very uncomfortable and not at all athletic IMO. A 3-4 OLB does not blitz on every play. They have to cover. I hope I'm wrong here and Spencer becomes a demon for us.

The offensive linemen look to be safe picks. I really thought there were players available that could have helped us in what should be a Superbowl run this year. Marten and Free are, at best, starters down the road.

I'd be very interested if they polled the other 31 NFL GM's and see how many of them thought Stanbeck was a 4th round pick.

Let's hope that Anthony Henry bounces back this year because we did absolutely nothing to insure teams don't continue to throw opposite Newman and light Henry up. Also, pray that Jason Ferguson doesn't get hurt because we do not have a quality back-up.

We went into this draft with 3 areas of need.. WR, CB, and NT. Here it is, post-draft weeekend and we still have those same 3 needs.

I have 2 (football) wishes every year....1. That the Dallas Cowboys win the Super Bowl and 2. That Jerry Jones hires a qualified General Manager.

Nice post Chris. I think this was a solid draft but time will tell. I obviously like the extra first but the proof will be in the pudding in the next few years. All I know is that most every fan and every front office thinks they made the right choices this week. We all know that isn't the case.

I enjoyed your well thought out response...even though it might be a little different from my opinions.

His rankings also turned out to be pretty inaccurate this year. Some year he gets the top 10 in a straight line. Not this year.

Not to mention he gives Detroit an A after taking the 4th receiver in 5 years IN THE TOP 10! (yea obviously a winning formula, wonder which receiver they'll be drafting next year)

I do draft grades the day after, but even I admit to take it with a grain of salt and it's more of a prediction than true analysis. I'm surprised we got a D from Goose, though. Spencer went right about where he predicted as well as Marten. We actually got Free lower than he had predicted and I don't think Stanback was that bad of a pick.

Part of the problem is that Goose doesn't realize that Stanback has done WR and punt returns in college (Goose said he didn't yesterday and that's why he didn't like the pick). Stanback is extremely fast, but has great hips and is a long strider. I don't think the foot injury will be too much of a problem and we needed a punt returner.

I could see Goose saying we made a reach on Stanback, but it's a 4th round reach. But we certainly didn't make reaches according to his pre-draft reports on Spencer, Free, and Marten. After that it's a crap shoot, so I don't understand what Dallas had to do differently in his mind to get a higher grade.

Our two worse grades that I have seen were from Goose and Bayless, I can live with that!.

Stanback if very raw when it comes to being an NFL WR.

I'd be surprised if he is even able to compete with any of our 5.

What team need does this pick help?

We should have gone NT or CB at that point.

We passed on our QB at round 1 - pick 22.

Seven pages of childish rants, all because someone had the audacity not to like our draft. Sorry Goose, but some people only have use for you when you're kissing Valley Ranch's backside. If not, you must be destroyed. Petty? You bet.

Speaking of rants . . . .

So, guy send us all an invitation at yours and Goose's impending wedding. I hear you will have hot and cold buffet and line dancing and a pinata.

Well, they can grade all they want. But drafts really should be graded 3 years from now. I remember a few years back, everyone said we had a awesome draft and that season we ended up 5-11. I believe it was the Roy Williams year.

Spencer should be a contributer on defense with his pass rushing ability. Marten and Free could become starters in a couple of years. Folk, might be a good pick up as a kick off specialist and maybe a kicker down the line. Gramatica is up there in age. Corners, are highly overrated as far as Im concerned with the new rules, so if these guys can help in ST and maybe develop in the nickel. Then it was worth it.

This draft did not have the WOW factor this year. But, it could help us down the line in the future. Sportswriters have to write about something the day after the draft. So he gives us a D, so be it. We don't win games or playoff games in April.
