I'm just waiting to see how long before he retracts that silly statement and corrects himself.

Yup and insinuating that Spears haven't been cut.rocboy22;5029874 said:It wasn't even just that. What about where he says we can't cut free due to the cap hit???
And- I think you'll be waiting a LONG time before you see a retraction.
actually they do have to be below the cap to draft. he is somewhat right, although it's just the rookie min you have to be belowCoachHodnett;5029806 said:FALSE.
We can absolutely draft them. We could make 10 first round picks and it would not affect the cap until they are SIGNED (which has traditionally occurred in late July/August).
The only draft-related cap issue is signing the UDFAs, which still should not be a huge issue because only the top 51 salaries affect the cap.

Team salary includes the Rookie Minimum Active Salary as of the day of the draft for all drafted rookies. The salary for drafted rookies will stay at this amount until the player is signed, the team’s rights are relinquished through waivers, or until the Tuesday following the tenth week of the regular season if the player remains unsigned. Note also that there is a Rookie Salary Cap, which is a subset of the overall cap. Each team has its own unique Rookie Salary Cap, based on the number of draft picks they have and where in each round the picks ocurred.

When a player is drafted, he automatically is tendered a one-year contract for the rookie minimum base salary (for 2012, that is $390,000). This amount immediately is applied to the team's rookie pool and salary cap.
Because most teams have at least 51 players with cap numbers higher than the rookie minimum salary before the draft, the automatic tenders for drafted players won't affect those teams' caps at all.
It sometimes is mistakenly reported that teams must have cap room in order to use their draft choices, but that applies only to teams that have fewer than 51 players signed or tendered at the time of the draft.
thats right. and we sure have over 51 players making over 400k a year. while he may be factually correct in reality it's a non -issuexwalker;5029923 said:From AdamJT13:

According to spotrac, the last six cap figures are equal to or higher than the rookie minimum.Sandyf;5030030 said:The Rookie minimum for 2013 $480.00. Believe we have about six players at below that within the rule of 51. So basically we have to have the difference between $480,000 and those six to be under the cap or roughly $600,000 which we already have with designating Spears a June 1st cut.
Rick baby Gooselin needs to explain himself better.
